I have 3 phones through sprint. 2 of them are add-a-phones so they are
all under the same plan. If I cancel my account is it 150 for each
phone? If I remember correctly this is what a rep told me but wanted to
    ask here to be sure.

Sprint isn't all that bad but I am disapointed in their phone
replacement rebate program. We've had to get junk phones off ebay
because we couldnt afford 150 for a new phone. When we did this it
started the wait period all over again.

I will probly be cutting my cell phones down to just 2. They will mainly
be used for emergencies or if I need to make a very important quick call.

my main reason for cancelling is because I can get 2 virgin mobile
phones and use vonage as much as I want and it would be much cheaper.

Does this sound doable or will I regret getting rid of sprint.

    thanks

Not necessarily. Check on your SPCS acct web page and see whether each phone
number is still under an annual agreement. If they are, then yes, you would
    be obligated to pay $450.

If you activated those phones bought off eBay, which were previously
activated phones (used phones), then it should not have initiated a new 18
month waiting period. If you activated brand new phones, then yes ... it
would reset the 18 month time period.

Well, if you find that one or more of your phones is not obligated under an
annual agreement, you should be able to cancel one or both.

Yes, it does, but not if those phones still have annual agreements.

I'm confused. Are you referring to the -every-18-months replacement
rebate? If so, and you are willing to sign another 2-year contract, you
get a $150 credit for each of your three phones. If you are only willing
to sign a 1-year contract, you get a $100 credit for each of your three
phones. If you aren't willing to sign a new contract, you don't get
anything. So I assume you weren't willing to sign a new contract, or you
were looking at a $300 phone?

I go for the cheapest phones I can find. I have asked many times when I
called sprint and they have said you need to have 18 months on any one
phone to qualify for the rebate program. Its hard to finish out the 18
months on a pre-existing phone if its in pieces. At the time I was
willing to sign a contract but I hate being tied to any one companty.
hopefully the phones I have now will fuction until my sprint service ends.

I also just called sprint and a rep told me it would be 450 to cancel my
whole account. 2 of my phones contracts are up march of 2006 so I could
cancel then for *only* 150 dollars. But even if I cancelled now it would
be a savings rather than pay 10 months of service.

I still might go with the cheapest vonage line to supplement some
minutes. my wife gets a lot of work calls and we have been going over
    15-20 minutes on occasion.

When I bought a used phone in December they told me it would reset my
timer. I never did activate it. I bought a new phone.

That someone needs remedial reading classes. From the Sprint PCS Rebate
    eligibility page:

    http://pcshandsetupgrade.sprint.com/...ntRebates.html

"Purchasing and activating a new phone and receiving any other discount
prior to date of eligibility for the rebate offer forfeits enrollment in
the program (excludes additional new lines of service)."

It's in the lightened font conditions at the bottom of that page. If
you'd activated the used phone, it would *not* have reset your 18
    months.

The system would hiccup now and again, but reps have a transparent
billing code they can add to an account that tells the rebate processing
center that eligibility has been manually confirmed. In fact, if a
"Gold" customer came to me, I'd even add that code a couple of months
early if the customer was wanting to use it.

I just checked my eligibility date. It's 1/1/06, six months before the end
of my current contract, and eighteen months after I activated my new line
and bought the only new phone I've ever had on the line. So the CSR who told
me that activating my most recent eBay phone reset the 18 months is a dumbass.

But it says my wife qualifies on 8/1/2005, and we initiated service by
setting up her line in 2000 and she has NEVER had a new phone on that
account... we set it up with an old phone my friend used to use. According
to that date, she last got a new phone on 2/1/2004. That *might* be when we
activated her P300 but we got it off eBay. She's out of contract and has
    been for some time.

    > The system would hiccup now and again,

Maybe that's what happened to us. Not a big deal, since she loves her P300
and definitely won't be getting a new phone any time soon. (and absolutely
not before August 1st of this year.)

What osiris wrote does not seem to negate what I wrote. When I like
you bought a p300 from ebay, they said that if I activated it, I would
not be eligible for a rebate on a new phone for 18 months. Yes I did
call in more than once. Gold? Gold sounds good. How do I get to be
    Gold?

    Then the CSRs are idiots...

This is O/Siris, posting from a different PC.

In short, the system takes care of that automatically. They wouldn't
even train us on the criteria. The system Sprint Reps use includes a 1
to 5 star setting called "Value". It's based on lots of things. When
it reaches 4 or 5 stars, you're golden.

This is not correct. There is "no change" to your contract if you do an esn
change. Your contract is affected in many ways but for sure these two:
    1) hardware: if you accept sprint subsidized equipment, it will usually
    reset your contract
    2) plan: if you move to a new promotion/plan, it will usually reset your
    contract.

Someone gave you bad info: putting a used phone on the line doesn't change
    your contract clock. dr
