How well are PalmOne phones supported?

OK, I'm tired of getting phones, having something like a battery die in
a year or two, and finding that the new models use a different battery,
and they no longer make the battery for mine.

How well do PalmOne devices hold up in this area? If I spend $450 bucks
on a Treo 650, I want the option of keeping it for several years.

Well, the PalmOne Treo 650 battery is pretty easy to find, it seems.
They sell for aorund $40 to $450 at CompUsa, and even cheaper online.
The Sprint stores also seem to carry them.

THe big improvement over the Treo 600 is that the the 650's battery is
actually removeable and replaceable. You can keep spares handy if you want.

As the 650 was only introduced in late '04, it'd be rather difficult
to *know* about long term reliability and parts availability.

As most of us know, all you can do is hope.
