Giving up employer phone and want to try VM prepaid to asses actual needs
for a couple months. If you call a phone and nobody answers and you hang up
before a voice-mail or answering machine, does it count as a minute?
    Thanks.

My guess would be YES because you actually have used the service to
hear the ring tone on the other side.

It shouldn't, but the real answer is to call VM customer service. Sprint
does not do billing for VM phones; VM does.
