Whilst I love my scp-4900 for its reliability and good signal strength in
weak coverage areas, its battery is dying on me and SMS & web stuff is
wayyyyy too slow.
Plus, I would like to SMS overseas (in particular France). Will upgrading
to a new phone help in this endeavor? Anyone had luck SMS'g to France?
Cheers,
- tex

Well, I really don't know much about SMSing overseas, however that's not a
phone function, it's a system function.
As for phones, you don't mention what your needs are. You have a "candybar"
(non-flip) styled phone now. Do you want to stay with that style or change
to a flip phone? Do you want to take pictures via a camera phone, have a
speaker phone, bluetooth capability, Power Vision capability or PTT
capability? Do you want to pay for more optional monthly services offered by
SPCS with what a new phone can do these days?
How much do you want to spend? Would the phone rebate option make any
difference on a phone model that might be more expensive than what you want
to pay right now?
Are you eligible for a phone rebate and if you are, do you want to extend
your annual agreement for a year or two to get a $75 or $150 credit/rebate?
You really need to define your needs a bit more to get any kind of response.
I'd suggest you think about those questions on what's going to fit your
future needs, maybe check the phone reviews on phonescoop.com, then go down
to your local SPCS and try out some of models. Ask the reps while you are
there about SMSing to France and try sending one from one of the phones
there.

I think Sprint has only one phone that will work overseas (GSM in
France), but if that wasn't a consideration I'd pick any one of the MM
series phones (aka multimedia) phones. They are top of the line, and AAC
ringers (you can make your own at www.RingtoneChopShop.com sound
great.
