Not all plans/phones are available in all cities.

    Is it really *that* difficult?

Thankfully, that is starting to change as the affiliates are bought up.

Not really--and Cingular does the same thing.

Can someone tell me why you need to put in a zip code just to see what
phones are available? Do they really change my location?

And are you supposed to put in the zip code of the area of your sprint
phone number, or the area where you plan to buy the phone?

Not all areas that sell Sprint coverage are Sprint- owned areas. Affiliates
sell in those areas and are not a part of Sprint. If you live on those
areas, you would not be buying your service directly from Sprint.

Same for Nextel- areas of the country served by Nextel Partners would not
    buy directly from Nextel.

How are you supposed to do both? You can only enter one zip code.
