Re: Sprint announces new Sanyo phone

I have $10 Vision and do not plan to loose it even though I will most likely
upgrade to a Powervision Phone. I was told by the local Sprint Rep that all
I have to do is an ESN swap and not make any changes to the account.

In which case, you can not use PowerVision. You would only be able to use
regular vision. I suspect that would disable OTA software updates. To me, it
is probably worth the extra $5 to get the minimal PowerVision pack.

Now, in my case I suspect I have an worthless hand in dealing with retention
to get a decent phone next Summer [should one be available ... trimode EVDO
would be awesome], so I really don't know what to do when I am ready. One
thing I really hate is that Sprint forces a contract renewal with a plan
change [i.e. going to a newer Fair and Flexible plan], which is making me a
    bit gunshy at this point.

It is possible to use the phone in high speed powervision mode as long as
you don't use any of the other services such as the TV channels, etc which I
    don't use anyway.

If you called customer support, then they will make you pay, however, I
understand that you can buy the phone at Costco or Radio Shack and just have
    them do an ESN swap.

I was told that powervision requires provisioning and that it would require a
powervision addition to my plan. After such a point, it might be possible to
remove the plan and pay per KB, but I am not sure. That is what was indicated
    to me.

PowerVision still requires provisioning. That requires a plan entry. Once
done, you might be able to remove powervision and pay per KB fees instead.
I don't believe it was possible to force the phone into Vision mode if
PowerVision is available, so I am not sure how things will work for you
    with Vision provisioning only.
