EVDO use for PAM (Phone As Modem) requires a data plan. Your $15 Power
Vision does not allow PAM. But
EVDO in some phones can be disabled!
Here is Sprint's announcement early this year:
Beginning February 1, 2006, phone as modem service will be blocked for
customers with
EVDO phones unless a phone as modem plan has been purchased.
Customers currently using their
EVDO phone to connect a computer to the
internet without a phone as modem service plan will receive the following
SMS text message on January 26, 2006:
A Phone-As-Modem data plan is required to connect your phone to a PC for
Internet connectivity. Please contact Sprint Customer Care via *2 to learn
more.
Customers will not be charged for the SMS text message.
