I am angry as heck! I bought my wife a cellphone with a camera
presuming that since it is a data device that a data cable (USB) would
allow me to connect the phone to my pc and download the pictures. BOY
WAS I WRONG! Now I am stuck with a piece of crap plan for 2 years and
a phone that won't let me download the pictures without subscribing to
a service that will cost me 60/yr above the plan!

Does anyone know of a set of drivers (or a way) to download the
    pictures without the service?

Relax, it's bad for your health.

    Go to: http://www.bitpim.org

Free, open source. There are commercial products as well if
this doesn't meet your needs. One such is Data Pilot
    (http://www.susteen.com)

I assume you have or know where to get the USB cable. If not,
    try here:

As for your "piece of crap plan", Sprint also offers quite
good plans. There may still be time for you to modify.

Now the only thing you have to be upset about is that
telephones take ridiculously poor photographs. The best camera phone
is worse than the cheapest digital cameras on the market, imo.

You probably should have double-checked first.

The Sanyo 3100 has a 0.3 Megapixel camera (VGA quality). A cheap
digital camera has 3 times that. Cameras on phones are made for
    convenience, not quality.

David, consider that for $15/month with sprint, you have unlimited
picture messaging, when most other carriers would charge you for a
certain amount of messages as well as for the data to send them. While
the Vision pack can seem like a lot, it can be a lot of savings as well.

Both points very well-taken! I was only commenting upon the
poor quality of photographs shot with phones. There is a certain
element of convenience, and in some applications a phone camera can be
quite handy. But being involved with photography for my work, I'm
always extremely dismayed by the awful images phones produce. So if
someone is looking for a "good camera" as the OP was, my feeling is
that they should by one, and use their phone for verbal communication.
