Outgoing text messages while roaming

Is it true that outgoing text messages do not work while roaming
digitally with Sprint PCS?

I am within my 14 day trial, and the roaming coverage is great, but I
was a bit shocked when the phone refused to send a text message under
digital roaming until I was back in the Sprint coverage area. I
noticed incoming text messages work fine while digital roaming. You
just can't reply.

I have never had a problem sending text messages while roaming with
TDMA or GSM.

I have been able to send text and receive text messages while roaming on
Verizon.

What phone did you get? Some phones are, unfortunately, unable to send
texts by roaming. It's not a network issue but a hardware manufacturer
problem, as some manufacturers decided for some reason to disable this
ability.

I do know that the Samsung A900 is supposed to be able to text message
while roaming (but cannot do data). The Motorola RAZR, SLVR and KRZR
can text message and use data while roaming, as can the Blackberry
devices. I'm not sure about Sanyo phones or the LG Fusic.

My phone, Sanyo 8300, seems to block outgoing messages when I am not in a
SPRINT PCS area.
Incoming coming in fine....

I needed analog roaming on a rural carrier. The phone has gone into
analog for me, and I have made a call from analog at our cabin (I think
analog or digital depends on the weather, and the Sprint map shows
analog). A900 has no analog. Moto V3M has no analog. Moto SLVR no
analog. Moto KRZR no analog. Fusic no analog.

So they aren't smart enough to tell the difference between analog and
digital roaming?
