Text messaging how to

When I send a text message phone to phone, it alerts the receiver's phone
immediately. However when I send that same individual a text message from my
computer in the form of an email, the recipient must go into and query his
email server. This is not the same with other carriers. I understand this
is the format for sending text messages from my computer via my email
program: xxxxxxxxxx@messaging.sprintpcs.com

What needs to be done so the recipient's phone gets alerted immediately?
Thanks.

Re: Text messaging how to

Michael:

I just tried sending to my Mogul from the Sprint web site, AND using
xxxxxxxxxx@messaging.sprintpcs.com
I was alerted immediately using both methods.

Re: Text messaging how to

Thanks for that info. Not being a Sprint customer or being familiar with my
co-worker's phone I'm at a disadvantage. Your experience is exactly what I
would have expected to occur and what I have experienced with other
carriers. At my prompting, my co-worker stopped by his local Sprint store
and explained the situation. The store associate told him he had to add some
"feature"...meaning more money. I'm thinking either my guy didn't explain
what he wanted or the store employee didn't have a clue...probably a little
of both.

Thanks you your input.

Re: Text messaging how to

I would suggest that the person you are sending to needs to call in
and have some trouble shooting done regarding this. The messages are
handled differently, ie by different severs, it is possible there is
an issue in this persons area regarding this type of messaging. More
than likekly a trouble ticket will need to be created for the
technicians to investigate.

Does the recipient have a very old (> three years old) phone? This
sounds like they are using "Shortmail", Sprint's proprietary predecessor
to SMS.

Some older Sprint phones can't do SMS at all. Some (I suspect your co-
worker's is one) can do both, and it depends on how the phone is
provisioned as to which is used.

There may be costs involved in switching from Shortmail to SMS, I don't
know. This may have been what the Sprint Store Rep was trying to explain
to your co-worker.
