Blocking SPAM Messages Sent To Your Sprint PCS Phone

Not sure if anyone knows this, but Sprint is able to block incoming text
messages from a specific source, rather than having to suspend all inbound
text messages.

I've been receiving unsolicited text messages addressed to "Tatiana," that
say "Someone has a crush on you. Go to www.CheckMyCrush.com" I've gotten
one every day for the past 4 days. I do not have an unlimited text plan, so
this garbage is costing me $.20 apiece.

I tried to visit that site, and I got a message saying "Link Not Working."
Apparently, the sender spoofed the return address in the text messages.

I phoned Sprint today and spoke to a knowledgeable tech support rep, who
told me that they could block inbound messages by their "short codes." He
looked up my info and found that I had indeed received 4 text messages, all
from the same source, with short code number 6245. He put a block on them.
(No, he could not read the contents of the text messages--just the dates,
times and short codes).

If anyone is receiving unwanted inbound text messages, call tech support and
ask for blocking. You don't need to suspend text messaging entirely--you'll
just get rid of the ones from spammers and other pests.

Though it presumably doesn't cost anything, the only SPAM I've
received recently was from Sprint itself.

I wonder how they'd feel about blocking their own nuisance
messages.

Hello Jeremy,

If you have access to your account online, you can block them as well
(up to 50). Go to Sprint.com, your account, click on Open Text
Messages, Settings and Preferences, and there you enter numbers or email
addresses. I am not sure if it blocks short codes or not, haven't tried
yet.
