while there is much hoopla about the new iphone coming out, I have to say
that the samsung instinct is a very good phone. I have had it for almost a
month and it's worked perfectly. I didn't expect the browser to be the
greatest but if you just want to go to a site to simply just read the news
then it does a good job of that. I always read the Yahoo tech news and it
gets me there very quickly from my created shortcut button. Everything on
this phone works perfectly. Is it an Iphone killer? I don't think so. But it
is Sprint's best answer for it until (hopefully) we get the HTC Diamond. I
just hope we do get that phone on the Sprint network. If there are any
questions you would like answered about the Samsung Instinct, feel free to
ask. I will answer as best as I can. This is an incredible phone.

Hi there. I have a couple of questions:
1. Can you sync it with iTunes?
2. How would you check gmail? Do you have to go to the actual website,
just as if you were on a computer, or is there a special application to
check email?
Thanks!

Thank you. Can you tell me if it has multiple language input,
and if it will render web pages and mail in foreign languages
(specifically Japanese). E-mail would be difficult for you to check,
but for example, what do you see when you go here:
http://www.asahi.com
(Interestingly, there's a front page story about the release
of the iPhone in Japan right now).
Thanks in advance, DGI

I don't mean this as anything but a compliment- you are one of the most
thorough consumer researchers I've seen on Usenet in a long time.
I hope you find a good phone that meets your needs.

Thanks very much. I'm just the sort that feels there are so
many real surprises of all sorts in life that one may as well nail
down the relative trivialities.

Re: The Samsung Instinct
1. No, you can't sync it with itunes.
2. To check emails, you can have it set up with just about any account,
including your work emails. Once you set them up, they will be pushed to
you. I have a hotmail and yahoo mail account that I use for free and they
get pushed to me. All you have to do is hit your email button and you can
see your emails from there. The email feature is probably the best thing
about this phone. You could choose Yahoo, Hotmail, Gmail, AOL, AIM or work
emails or if you have an account for each one..you could choose all of them
if you like.

Re: The Samsung Instinct
i tried the site you gave me for an example and i'm afraid it does not
render the page correctly. I find a lot of missing characters. There are
some you could see and you could also see some pictures. But I get mostly
"boxes" where letters should be.

How does this work in terms of syncing with your Gmail account? Since
the phone doesn't seem to support IMAP, do you not get any emails that
you've received on your phone if you later go to the website on your PC?

Also, how is the phone/reception quality for voice calls? That's still
most important to me!

Re: The Samsung Instinct
there is a button when you set up your email accounts...there is one
especially for gmail..you log in to your account and that's it. When you get
a new email, you'll feel a buzz and you can go right to your email. I have
it where I can get all my hotmail and yahoo emails sent to me. Sprint
provides this with the unlimited plans so I'm guessing that it's thru
Sprint's servers that these emails get pushed to you. But it does work and
it works well.

Re: The Samsung Instinct
the reception is very clear...haven't had a single complaint. It's even very
good thru the bluetooth as well.

Re: The Samsung Instinct
Is there an alternative Web Browser App that works with Sprint
Instinct Phone? Such as FireFox?

I believe the Mozilla site says that mobile FireFox will be
out later this summer.

Re: The Samsung Instinct
I just got my instinct. I had made the not so great choice to leave
sprint and go get an iPhone. The iPhone itself is a great phone, with
the exception that you can not change the alert sound on the calendar
program (it goes beep, beep, beep) but the network is just not
acceptable. So, 6 days later, I ordered my instinct and came crawling
back to Sprint.
With all the research I have done on the phone before I made my choice
on what new phone I would get, I kept reading about how you could sync
your contacts from gmail and your calendar from google. I finally
moved my gmail contacts via bluetooth, which is better than nothing,
but the business contacts show up with No Name and the people who were
email only showed up no name... and of course I had more than 600...
which I have been having to delete unneeded contacts to get the
important ones on my phone. Oh, and I forgot to mention, my big
problem with all this is I have a Mac. And there is basically NO Mac
support for this phone or any of the other stuff, thus the reason I am
going the google route, cuz I CAN sync all my google stuff with my
Mac!!
So my question, how do I use the google calendar and have it not be
read only... which was my other frustrating thing! The most recent
comment I read was that you just make that your home page. My problem
is that every time I try to open google calendar on my phone, it
crashes the internet. (I have also noticed any time I open a page that
is too big it crashes the internet... and I always know it is coming
because it will blink first... yahoo does it too). I did go in and
make sure I had the most current software, but any other suggestions
or any program to sync my calendar would be wonderful.
Thanks in advance,
Les
