AT&T, Sprint Near Pact On Roaming

AT&T Wireless [NYSE: AWE] and Sprint PCS [NYSE: PCS] are closing in on
what will likely be a major new agreement that will allow the two
carriers' subscribers to freely roam between their respective wireless
networks, industry sources tell Communications Today's sister
publication Telecom Policy Report.

The agreement, which could surface virtually any time now, is expected
to pave the way for further penetration by AT&T Wireless and Sprint PCS
into the Wi-Fi services marketplace, according to the sources. To learn
more, be sure to read this week's issue of Telecom Policy Report.

I think this was a joke. Doesn't make sense for a CDMA(SPCS) carrier to
link up with a TDMA/GSM/AMPS(ATTWS) carrier. It is physically
impossible for an ATTWS customer to roam on SPCS. SPCS customers could
roam on the AMPS service, but this would not be a great improvement over
the current AMPS roaming.

bro, you gotta read the first post before you post, this is for Wi-Fi
service, not CDMA to TDMA/GSM service

The post said that they would roam on their wireless networks which
would possibly open up the change for them to expand their wi-fi
offerings. The gist of the story is about phone roaming, not wi-fi. It
is stating that this can possibly help wi-fi in the future for both
companies.

As AT&T moves towards wCDMA and new handsets are developed that could
possibly allow for GSM/wCDMA/CDMA/TDMA roaming, anything is possible.

Clearly it was some idiot who knows nothing about wireless (or does, but
wanted to show that Hoover's does not) spreading false info.

Though it WOULD be nice to see ATTWS come to their senses and switch to
CDMA.
