My contract with Sprint ended 2 days ago. Just wondering if anyone can
reccomend a new phone and or plan. I am considering leaving sprint and going
with cingular or verizon. Coverage in my hometown (Bristol, CT) has many
areas where I can not get coverage. I was told that it could be my sprint
phone (LG 5250) that is causing this. Is this possible? I have also heard
that the Sanyo phones have the best reception. Any help appreciated.

One more thing, there is a lot of talk about contacting a retention rep in
this group. How exactly would I do this and what could I expect to get? I
currently have 2 phones on my plan and would like to add a third, The only
thing I am really looking for is a reduction of the $20 per line charge as
the third line will be used realatively infrequently. Any suggestions?

    Thanks

As far as reception and coverage goes, it's possible that it could be
your phone. The best way to figure that out is to find someone with
Sprint but a different phone and see if they get a signal in the areas
you don't. If they do then it's your phone. Sanyos are known for good
reception, but the new Samsung A600 supposedly has better reception
    than previous Samsungs.

As far as a retention plan goes, just call in and talk to a rep and
tell them the truth. That you are considering going with another
carrier due to coverage issues. They won't just take the $20 off the
add-a-phone, but they might be able to offer you a different plan
that's not normally available. I'm not sure what kind they have for
shared minute plans though. For instance, for a single line, I was
once offere 750 anytime minutes, unlimited nights and weekends, and
unlimited PCS to PCS for $40 a month. That's one of the standard
retention plans and is obviously better than regular plans. I don't
know if they have plans like that for shared minute plans, but they
might offer to give you a free phone or service credits.

    Re: End of Contract options

I have no experience with lg phones, but had plenty with samsung, some
good some bad, have had as many as -5 phones one might be the best,
another of the same model would not work as well, or would just stop
working before it should--however, this was over a couple of years--they
may have improved with the last models--don't know because I got the
original sanyo because of the speaker phone thing only--haved continued
to use them, because they seem to do the what they are suppose to --with
the 4 or 5 I have had, and have recommended to friends, all work better
than anything else, especially in fringe areas--maybe all phones have
just gotten better, but I see a lot of similar posts--on the retention
thing, ask for more than you expect to get, and don't be afraid to say :
let me think it over , etc". let us know what you get.

Coincidentally, I have been to Bristol Connecticut. I tried both the LG5250
and the LG5350 there. These phones both work perfectly in Los Angeles but
with frequent interruptions in Bristol. Sprint is supposed to put up more
towers in Connecticut this year but who knows if it will be enough or where
they will be. My friend is on Verizon and that phone works just about
everywhere my phone doesn't except for in no man's land on the NY border.
There are several towns there where no provider works.

Umm, it doesn't work like that. First, they put your account on hold
so your contract resumes when you get back. Plus, you need to provide
proof that you're being sent away so people can't just call and say,
"Yeah, umm, I'm going to Iraq for 3 years, I want to cancel my account
    without an early termination fee."

I don't know how AT&T handles things, but Sprint requires proof or at
least more than you making the claim. Whether you have fax your
orders, military ID, or something else, they don't just take your word
for it. Otherwise anyone who wants out of their contract could do it
    and get away with it.
