I'm curious if there's anything new on the horizon Treo-wise. A buddy
really wants a Treo 300 (because of the thumb-pad) and I'm trying to come up
with reasons why he should wait. Are there any new SprintPCS Treo's coming?

The Treo 600 is due out sometime this fall (Oct?). Check out the
discussion forums at www.treocentral.com for more info and links.

Rumor has it the Treo 600 will be out by the end of the year. But I'm using
the same sources on this that you'd find for yourself. Phonescoop,
TreoCentral, etc. Nothing internal that I've found yet.

Any internal news or rumors about new Nokia phones? Or "real" SMS?

The Treo 600 will be in the $599 range. The Treo 300 right now is
$399.95. There's also a $100 rebate from Sprint making the net cost
$299.95. It's a mail in rebate fro most retail stores. It's an
instant credit to your account from Sprint stores or our online store.

Your friend needs to decide if the extra features are worth the extra
money of the Treo 600. There's lots of stuff at
    http://www.handspring.com/treo600/ as well.

My Rshack store has some refurbished Treo 300 units for $319.99, plus you
get a $100 instant or mail-in rebate depending on if you activate new
service in the store with a 2yr plan or activate later, respectively. The
new Treo 600 coming out will have a built-in camera, SD expansion (SDIO)
slot, 32MB onboard memory and so on. Price is a big ouucch at about $599.99.

I looked at the link above. That is a great looking phone/PDA!! I have
the Treo 300 and the keyboard is just on the brink of being usable, the
600 looks too small to use with your fingers. FWIW I really like the
    Treo 300.

    My problems with Treo are:

    1) I don't want a thumbboard. I don't want to have to hunt for keys.
    Grafitti works great for me!

    2) I don't think it's capable of analog mode, so roaming can be problematic.

One big problem with the phone is the non changeable battery.

Heh, I never keep a phone for more than six months, and my PDA's get
swapped out about every nine. Internal batteries aren't much of a
    problem for me...

What I mean is that when the battery goes dead, you can not swap
it out for a charged one. You have to put it on the charger and wait.

Most sources I've come across estimate the Treo 600's release to be
around October. About the price, Handspring themselves has said it
should cost between $399 and $499 before any carrier subsidies.
They'll also have a trade up program so current Treo owners get a
discount. As for the size of the keyboard, their press releases and
newsletters claim they've made it 11% smaller but because of the size
and shape of the new keys, it's actually easier and faster to use.

I have had the Tre 300 for about 3 months now. Overall I would give it
a 3 out of 5. I too have issue with the battery life. I guess this is
why it comes with both a travel and car charger. Also, the stylus for
me has jammed into the unit, and requires a screwdriver to get it out.
Graphics are adequate, phone features if you like Palm OS work fine. I
would recommend waiting or going with the Samsung model.

Well, for those that absolutely want the thumboard, wait for the
Treo600. It'll be a tad smaller than the 300 and will come with goodies
    like a camera.

But if you want small form factor (Treo 600 will still be fairly big,
though smaller than the 300), or you want analog roaming (for, say 911
when you need it) or you prefer a flip-fone vs. a candybar, or you want
something *now*, or you actually -prefer- Grafitti (you masochist,
you), I heartily recommend the Samsung SPH-i500. I just managed to get
one last week, and it's very nice. Finally a small combined phone PDA
in a flip form factor on a network with reasonably priced and
    high-speed data access.
