faxing from sanyo 4900

I wonder if anybody had any luck trying to send faxes from the sanyo 4900
phone. it claims data/fax capability, but does not seem to work for me

I think all circuit-switched data (FAX, or dialing a third-party modem) is
broken on the 4900, at least in 1.056SP firmware. I've had no luck either
connecting to anything but #777 (Sprint's 1xRTT "Vision" gateway).
