Ok.. Switching back to Sprint from Nextel after leaving a job that
required a Nextel phone. I had a i300, and would love to get a Vision
Smartphone, but I can't justify that with the CLIE that I just bought.
So, I looked at the Vision phones available, and just based on the
look/feel, I really liked the N400. But the research I've done online
the past couple days seem to indicate that the phone is loaded with
problems. Crashes, battery time, signal reception and the like are
    all supposed to be problems.

Some of the reviews I've seem are old, so I'm not sure if software
    fixes have been released.

I don't really like any of the other phones that Sprint has out there,
though. Is there anything on the horizon that I should be looking out
for?? I don't really want to spend much more than what I can get the
    N400, however.

    Thanks for the input...

    Re: Do I want a N400??

I have had one since December and am quite happy with it. As a phone, I love
the speakerphone. It works and the sound is good - can't ask for more than
    that.

As a connection for the laptop - it has been flawless. It is indispensable
    on trips.

One caveat - I often have to "reset" it by pulling out the battery in order
to get the laptop connection to work.

Also, I don't browse the web much from the phone except for occasional news
and phone number look-ups - so I can't say much about it except "it works
    for me".

I say you should get the N400...especially since I have one that is
practically brand new I'll sell you for cheap. I used mine for about
2 months before I bought my 8100...which I believe to be the ABSOLUTE
BEST phone I've ever owned, and I never had any problems with the N400.
The only small complaint I have is signal strength isn't the greatest.
You say you don't want to spend much more than you can get the N400 for
but you really should concider the 8100.(Just my opinion)

    Re: Do I want a N400??

I bought two N400's at Costco in May. Overall a good phone, my wife
likes hers. Mine however I do not love. I am not a big fan of the small
clamshell phones - if it has to flip I prefer something like the Denso
    dbTP.

Be sure you get the current software, when I received the phones my
addressbook would re-write itself with each new entry and randomly
assign numbers to whomever it saw fit.
Plus random freezes of the phone.

Sprint replaced my handset claiming the connector was "fried". Very odd.
Low signal areas thephone doesn't hold as well as my previous phones -
but it does switch to analog and back to SPCS very well, so with the
correct plan it shouldn't matter much.

    Re: Do I want a N400??

The answer my Friend is NO, NO and NO to the N400

I bought two one for my wife and I.
I hated it from start Freezing bad battery life and the worst Signal on
    mine.

My wife liked it for a while and resolved the freezing By getting a
Software/Firmware Upgrade, However while Upgrading they blew it up and
had to replace with a brand new one with firmware upgrade done thats
when she whined at me its got no signal and that battery dosent last.
The explanation for the battery was that it was always looking for a
    signal thus depleating the battery.

I bought a SCP- 8100 and am in love with it being British and Living in
the us Ive had the best of both worlds American CDMA and European GSM I
can Tell you Ive never really had a better alround phone that the 8100
    specially for the price
my wife played with it and likes it so much I Have one arriving for her
    today.

The speakerphone on mine cycles volume from normal to intolerably loud.

To answer the original question, I will toss in another NO. Don't buy
    this phone.

I have the N400 and I haven't had any problems with it. Just some minor
    signal issues inside a building.
