It is included as a part of Vision.

Is it REAL text messaging or Sprint's stupid, crippled Short Mail?

And if it is real SMS, why make people pay for a Vision plan when many of
them would be just as happy paying a few bucks a month for the SMS alone
    because they don't _need_ Vision?

It's still just short mail, which sucks, no matter how you dress it up.

Both Text Messaging and Short Mail are included in Vision.

Ok, now answer the question: If I just want SMS and not Vision, why should
I be forced to pay for Vision? Hell - Why should I be forced to pay for
incoming-only SMS anyhow, when every other carrier on earth INCLUDING the
major prepaid Sprint reseller offers true SMS?

Ain't no skin off my teeth, Jerome. Doesn't hurt me if Sprint doesn't
offer the service; only Sprint. They could probably make a few more bucks
per month off us if they offered true SMS. It's something I could probably
convince my wife to use... it's quite convenient.

And there is no way in _hell_ I'd tell her to use Short mail when it involves
a data call rated at 39 cents per minute. That's nothing short of outrageous.

I will say at this point that for voice calls, in this part of the country,
Sprint rocks. Coverage in Southern California is great. But SPCS is losing
out by crippling the messaging service they offer.

Re: Another downside to Sprint "SMS"

It will not cost $.39 per minute. It does not use minutes. It is
part of Vision, which is unlimited data on plans that include Vision or
$.01 per KB on plans that do not. Could they figure out a way to put
just Text Messaging or Short Mail on a plan that does not have Vision?,
maybe. But for now they do not. So if you want Text Messaging or Short
Mail, you have to use a Vision plan or pay $.01 per KB.
