Those indoor dipole antennas are actually dual-mode
devices that can be used as radio antennas or hotdog
cookers. Aim the outside Yagi high gain antenna at
your microwave oven and it will cook the hotdogs.

Perhaps you are expecting too much. Nobody is on an ad
saying your phone *WILL* work in any particular place.
Verizon's cute series shows a few places where it works,
but no promise that every like location will work.

The promise is in your own mind, Larry. You've lied to
    your self.

Pointless to argue with those who don't want their words to
be recorded. Read the FCC rules. Mobile units are limited
to 7w ERP. It's in there. The only legitimate use of a
greater than 3dB gain antenna system is to raise a less
than 3w phone up to the 7w ERP limit.

There certainly isn't a "promise" (per se), particularly inside buildings, but
the Verizon "Can you hear me now?" campaign is misleading, IMHO. By showing
remote and unusual locations, it strongly suggests you will coverage just
about anywhere (which of course you won't).

If you actually check the specs for these systems (e.g., Andrew EAC-50
    Repeater Kit <http://www.antenna.com/repeaters/eac50_pcs.html>), you'll find
that they are medium gain, low power, well under FCC limits.

I was referring to Larry's bagphone which he claimed
overloaded the preamps of the system, not what the mall
amplifier would do to a 6w input.

    I didn't pick that up -- sorry.

The small BDA is actually much less than that.
