I hear a lot of negatives about sprint in this group, but is there anyone who
is happy with their service? I stayed with AT&T from their analog to digital
to gsm service but finally gave up on them with gsm. I had a friend
reccomend Sprint and I have been very happy ever since. I can go anywhere I
normally go (including inside my house) and use my phone without dropouts
etc. It works much better inside of buildings than AT&T, and my coverage has
been great.
Customer service is Ok, doesn't seem as helpful as AT&T but not as
frustrating either.
I've reccomended sprint to many friends.
Am I their only satisfied customer?

No, you aren't David ... lots of satisfied users out there, including yours
truly. The nature of newsgroups is to complain, and not to praise ...hence
the bulk of complaint posts.

Depends on how you define Service.
SprintPCS has a good network, some good phones, good pricing.
If you running into difficulty, their Customer Service sticks,
it was just rated worst by JD Power.

Can you provide a URL for that information ?

Verizon has less than double the customers of Sprint. Cite a reference that
shows Sprint PCS is #1 in complaints please. They didn't do well in
customer service ratings from JD Power, but that has nothing directly to do
with the number of complaints. Also, you note Sprint is #4 is customers,
but it is quite close to AT&T and Cingular. It is very possible that Sprint
might surpass both of these providers if their TDMA->GSM upgrades continue
to cause trouble.

I forget where I heard this, and I'll look, but Sprint PCS set a record for
most Better Business Bureau complaints in the first year they rolled out
their service. I think it was something like 1,700 or 1,800 Better Business
Bureau complaints in the first year alone.

And that was *how many* years ago?

Re: Is there anyone actually happy with sprint?
Sprint is the No. 4 carrier because the other carrier have all made many
mergers & acquistions to become the top 3. If they hadn't I'm sure
Sprint would be No. 2 right about now. Sprint has done it all by
themselves (meaning using their own licenses and building from scratch).
Of course someone is going to jump in and bring up the affiliates. But I
consider the affiliates to be part of Sprint because they use the same
network, billing, licenses, customer service, etc and built everything
from scratch only after Sprint signed them on to do so. The others such
as AT&T & Cingular got major portions of their network and customers
handed to them on a silver platter.

A few. But it's relevant, because apparently, Sprint is still last in
customer service.

Well, it's not like Sprint is exactly a spring chicken. They could have
gotten into the wireless arena when the other carriers were first allocated
their 800MHz spectrums.

Sprint PCS wasn't around back then ... They just started up in late 95 early
96. By then, the FCC was offering 1900 spectrum.

Right, and that was part of what I was saying. When the allocations were
made, Sprint (not Sprint PCS) should have jumped. I don't know if they just
weren't ready for that, didn't have the funds, didn't think about it or why
they didn't get into the market then. But Sprint has been around for a
while (1899), under different names of course.

Yeah, Sprint was founded by Cleyson L. Brown in 1899. Brown telephone
company, then they reorganized as United Utilities, then they became United
Telecommunications in 1972, then in 1986 they launched the Sprint brand
name.

They did GSM for a while as Sprint Spectrum -- their brochures and
various marketing pieces still cite SPRINT SPECTRUM, L.P. as a copyright
holder -- but then dumped GSM and went 1900MHz CDMA and started over as
SPCS. So they've been around for a while...
