Re: SPCS rates way up
I do not think there are any places where there is t-mobile
service but not Sprint PCS.

I don't think there are any places like that either, but there may be
certain spots where T-Mobile coverage is better.
Amazingly, my brother who had a T-Mobile phone about a year ago not only
had coverage at his house in rural Geauga County, Ohio, but was able to
get a phone number with an East Claridon exchange. The nearest "big" town
is Chardon, and I can see doing a Chardon exchange, but I was surprised
that he was able to get an East Claridon exchange - East Claridon is
extremely rural, and there are not many people living out there.
What made this even more incredible was the fact that T-Mobile had just
finally launched in the Cleveland area after a two-year buildout. You don't
generally expect a newcomer to have coverage in a place where there are more
cows than people.

Re: SPCS rates way up
I have similar situation with sprint service in rural east tenn. The
nearest metro area is Knoxville, tn and sprint service naturally
surrounds and grows from it as a center point--while I have used sprint
for years, originally just for travel, while having verizon for general
service--
The closest sprint service at least 20-25 miles, imagine my surprise
when I checked out a new tower being built, to find a sprint truck
there--not only did they place 2 towers in my locale, but also in the
adjoining even more rural area of SE ky-thus there is this little island
of service virtually in the middle of nowhere, and it is not even shown
on sprint service maps-- and if you try to find reference to this
service area either with sprints maps, or c/s, they will deny that it
exists--the only down side is there currently are no local numbers.
Further pressing the issue with sprint, and an explanation that for
obtaining licenses somewhere else, they were obliged to build towers
somewhere within a certain area--so essentially the towers were build
for out cows, so to speak. anyway there is fairly good sprint service
here.

Sorry about the self-followup, but I failed to point out that this is
a place where Sprint does not currently have service. Coverage in the
greater Cleveland area is generally good; my brother just lives in the
middle of nowhere.

Areas on western Kansas. That area (a T-Mobile roaming partner) had
1900 MHz GSM before many major metro areas.

Re: SPCS rates way up
So the service there is not provided by t-mobile or any other big
gsm provider, but by some small sub regional company.

Re: SPCS rates way up
In Colorado, it appears as though Sprint has stopped adding any new
territory. But T-Mobile has been expanding well beyond the last Sprint
tower, including those interstate corridors where T-Mobile now roams on AT&T
GSM.
Of course, a Sprint phone will roam deeper into rural territories, so the
difference becomes personal.
