I have a few quick questions on Sprint's upcoming PTT service launch.
Any help you can provide would be great.

    1) When is the launch? I have heard next week, Oct. 6th and the more
general "sometime this year". It would seem to me that they will likely
do it later than sooner, to avoid some of the Verizon issues. Any
    thoughts?
    2) What prices or packages will be available? Will it be at the $20
    premium like Verizon?
    3) Latency. I have heard that the Sprint latency and call-set-up time
is lower than Verizon's. What is the reason for this?

    Thanks.

Nothing has been officially announced, save that SPCS wanted to get PTT up
and running by 4th Qtr 2003. The SPCS reps here have said that they are not
    allowed to provide any information.

Ask Rob, he can give you an answer, if that's what you want. It may not be
accurate, but hell, it's an answer. He probably knows what the phones will
cost and what the discount will be.

    1. From what I heard, the original intended launch date was October
5th. That idea was scrapped recently after all the problems Verizon
had with their PTT. No one's sure when Ready Link will be released
now, but people are speculating it could be as late as Q1 2004.

    2. Price plans haven't been announced and anyone privy to that kind of
information is keeping quiet. I've seen a presentation showing that
Ready Link will likely be an add-on that can be coupled with other
add-ons. What the actual cost will be is anyone's guess.

    3. Latency has been dramatically reduced over the last couple months.
It used to be 6 seconds but the last I heard it was around 3 seconds to
sync up and then a 1-2 second delay after that. Sprint wants to get
the delay down to under a second.

With a little tuning and playing around with the phone, PTT software,
and CDMA2000, you could significantly reduce the delay involved.

I think slot cycle is a big factor in "sync up" delay.

    http://home.san.rr.com/denbeste/glossary.html

Sprint's is 2 (5.12s), which tags on a noticeable amount (on avg),
compared to the other setup delays.

Can Sprint reduce this for PTT handsets without impacting everyone's
    standby times?

    Question:

If both Verizon and Sprint will use VoIP (Voice over IP) technology
for their PTT, is it possible someone will figure out a way for the two
    to talk to each other?
