Anyone know who has the Samsung i500 in stock. I'm in the Atlanta area and
have tried Sprint, Bestbuy, CompUSA, and Staples with no luck. None of them
even know when they get the phones. Any help would be appreciated. Also,
this is a replacement phone not new service so to the internet shops, I'm
not willing to pay more than the already inflated MSRP.
Thanks,

I just was on the sprint web site and they have it in stock, also amazon
has it and a $200 rebate is available for new activations.

It is an old marketing trick that =maybe= Sprint is using, to keep an item in
short supply to make it seem more desireable. It is the highest priced phone
SprintPCS sells, and likely it would like to continue to sell it without a
subsidy.

Highly doubtful since Samsung didn't ship any after the initial (small)
shipment due to an extended holiday in South Korea.
Same thing with the A600 an A620 (but the first shipment on those were
larger).
The units are starting to come in slowly now.
It is also not the highest priced phone, the Hitachi G1000 is $650 while
the I500 is $600 (before any discounts).

Why only slowly now?
Stores are up to their armpits in N400's, which keep pouring in !

Huhh? Who says it's not subsidized at it's current price? Do you know what
SPCS's cost from Samsung is for that phone?

All their phones are subsidized in the sense that they don't charge twice
the price they currently do to make a larger profit. I highly doubt Sprint
loses too much money (if any at all) on any phone they sell. And there's
nothing wrong with that, they're in business to make money. Like someone
else posted, once it's been done for so long, giving deep discounts on the
phones becomes an expected behavior.

Based on Sony selling Clie for $200 with more features (minus phone)
than the any Palm Phone, do the math.

Found an i500 at the Jacksonville Regency Mall location. Check with
Gainesville, Tampa and Orlando and no one else had them.
My wife lost her i330 and i had to replace it. Learned an important
lesson myself of having the Sprint insurance as it would have covered
the lost. Grrr on Hindsight.

Since the Sony Clie is larger, you're not paying for smaller technology.
I also see the Clie going from $100 - $540 though CompUSA.com, lets look
at the Clie SJ22 (Selling for $199) vs. the I500..
Processor -
Clie Dragonball VZ 33MHz
I500 Dragonball VZ 66MHz
Both have 16MB Ram, 65535 color display.
Size on the Clie is .69 X 2.875 X 4.125 (Does not fold in half) and
weighs 4.5oz. (8.183 cubic inches)
Samsung I500 is .85 X 2.31 X 3.42 and weighs 4.7oz and it folds in half,
plus has a phone in it. (6.175 cubic inches)
Clie has a ton of software, but most of it seems like a trial version,
which can be downloaded for free, plus a Sony software pack (I'm sure
you can get free versions of the software). Clie also has a memory
stick adapter.
The I500 is smaller, and only weighs .2oz more, and has a twice as fast
processor but does not have the memory stick adapter. The specs are
more like the Clie SJ33 which is selling for $250.
Paying $600 for that PDA, and a phone all crunched into that small form
factor isn't a bad deal. (Less than 2 cubic inches smaller than the PDs
selling for $200 / $250)
And, the $599 price tag for the I500 is selling it at a loss. Looks
like the loss is roughly $50 per unit. So, the price is cut a little
right off before any "new activation" price. (If you don't like the
price, talk to the people who make it and decide the price, Samsung).
As for the holding off to make it more appealing, trust me, in the PC
industry (including PDAs) holding off like this only bites you in the
rear later on, people wait for it, someone comes out with something
better, they jump on that band wagon. You've just lost a bunch of
sales. Sprint PCS would love to have a good supply of these to meet the
demand in each store.

Re: Samsung i500 - Who has in Stock?
Question: The I500 is selling for $599. is that a bargain price?

The Clie has 320 x 320 resolution on a larger screen;
the I500 has only 160 x 240

Documents to GO, is a nice addition to the Clie, thank you
very little

The SJ33 is also an MP3 player.
Being able to add Memory via a memory stick is an ommission on the I500.

You've bent over backwards to make it look like the I500 is selling at a
loss. Neither of us know, but I think it offers less than the Clie SJ22,
and any $200 phone. Now the $200 phone may be subsidised from $300,
but the I500 is lacking a Speaker phone.
Maybe you can add $100 for the form factor, but that only gets you up to
the I500's cost, so I very nuch doubt all your failed efforts to show
its worth more.

You're guessing here. The evidence weighs against your guess.

Nice thing about a Palm phone is that its trivial to recover all your
data by doing one Hotsync.

SprintPCS Tech did an excellent comparison. As far as I can remember, SPCS
has never sold a phone to the public at their cost. They have subsidized the
cost to their customers by $50 to $150.

Yeah -- except for the recorded voice dials, which the Samsung phones
inexplicably store in a way that cannot be backed up by the Palm
HotSync. Even though the phone could store a huge number of voice
dials, I only record one or two because they get lost whenever I have
a hard reset (which luckily isn't often).

Maybe for new subscribers that might be true.
