I just used my new Sanyo 6400 for the first time today. I went to work, and
by the end of the day, the battery was nearly dead and I had hardly used it.
I noticed it was "looking" for service a lot. Would this cause the battery
to run down quicker than it should? If so, is there a way to make the phone
not "look" so much? Thanks

"Searching for service" is one of the biggest killers of battery life,
also, the 6000 series is ultra thin, with an untra thin battery, gives
much less battery life than the other Sanyos.
I'm suprised it lasted the day, maybe check into getting another charger
for work or the car?

If he "hardly used" his phone, maybe he doesn't need it powered on all
day.

Great tip! Why bother receiving calls at all?
Thanks, you've changed my perspective on phones completely...

Maybe he doesn't want to pay 45 cents/minute for roaming?

If its set to Sprint PCS only, then when he has no SprintPCS signal, but
an analog channel available, the phone will search for service, thus
having a much higher battery consumption rate as if it was in analog
mode (but analog mode will still drain the battery faster than with a
SprintPCS (1900MHz CDMA) signal).

So what is your recommended solution?

Re: Sanyo 6400 Question
I did have it set to "Sprint only". Is that going to be worse for my
battery? I did just get a car charger, so that may be my solution. I was
just wondering if A. that was a normal amount of consumption. and B. What
settings (other than off) would get me the best battery time. Thanks again

The "only" means no roaming. Meaning no roaming charges. Cause you
are ONLY on (or off) Sprint's network.
(Thanks SprintTech for jumping on this quinker than I could.)

Suggestion, brint it to a Sprint corporate store, prefer with a tech on
duty. If you just got it, you should have a return still left on it.
Either allow them to check out the phone, test it maybe, or just
exchange it if return polocy is still available.
Also while there, you may want to rep to confirm by using the zipcode
if coverage is truely available for the areas you are trying to use it.

Re: Sanyo 6400 Question
thi is normal. mine does the same thing. i work in the equivalent of a
cooncrete bunker and go in and out of range constantly. it sucks up
ALL the juice when it is looking for a signal. when i am not working,
my phone stays on standby for 5 days easy and still has a bar or 2 left
on the indicator. it is the fact that it is searching for a signal
(which will prevent u from getting calls anyway, so i turn mine off
when in the bunker).

That battery is not rated such much less than typical. If the phone
can't hold a charge for 24 hours, and its less than 1 year old, file a
warranty claim.

If its searching for service a lot, it won't last a whole day.

Set the backlight to the lowest setting.
Also check your location, turn that off (every little bit helps).
Vibrate ringer will also eat up battery life.
Let it fully charge at night, plug it in when you are at home for the
night and don't need it, and take it off the charger just before you
leave.
A car charger will help you in that one in a million event that you'll
need it on the way home and it will be dead.
