I purchased sprint 2 yrs ago and got a free qualcom 2760 phone.
I do not use a cell phone much so this was ok.
Now the battery won't hold a charge on standby for more than 60
minutes.
I tried to get a new battery. Everyone says oh that battery is mounted
in the phone and can't be replaced.
I called sprint and asked about a new phone. Sure if I take a 2 yr
contract they will sell me a phone.
NO way am I signing up for 2 yrs for anything.
Is there a way to get a discount phone I wanted something like the
sanyo flip phone. Small
At a decent price with no contracts ?
thanks for any help or advice

SprintPCS is so worried about number portability that all phones are now
sold with a contract.
Their web site says:
A one-year PCS Advantage Agreement is required for all lines of service
Perhaps on eBay or your local clasified, you could find something like a
Sanyo4700 used for cheap, but Sprint would charge you $36 to activate it.

I get a new phone every year for free by calling CS , but I extend my
contract for 1 year. I also get whatever the best plan "retention" is
offering.

Not much of a chance... Why would they give you a discount, with
no commitment on your part?

I don't think *any* carrier is offering phones at discount without a=20
contract.

Check out http://www.cellularaccessory.com/batteries91.html I had a battery
sent to my daughter for her 2760. She didn't have any problem changing it.
All it took was a T-6 Torx screwdriver. I sent her the TXBAT0131. The
price was $18.75 in March '02. $31.95 now. Sheese!

My old store had a ton o the clip on batteries for that phone, we gave
them away to people buying reconditioned kits or even people who had
one.
They double the thickness of the phone, but noone complained since we
were giving them away and all the phones that came in were out of
warranty.

Re: Phone replacement or new carrier
If you are a really low time user, have you considered a pre pay
phone--the monthly charge in the end, is the biggest expense.
If you are asking for a discounted phone, on a monthly plan, what are
you offering the carrier for the discount--they give you a discount, you
agree to maintain service for ever how long--what's wrong with
that--Personally, i go through this ever year or so, and consider it a
bonus discount--
At the same time I buy phones from ebay quite frequently, and am happy
with most of them, some I later sell, when I'm thru playing with
them--Sprint does not charge me anything to change phones, or they
haven't yet, and with a non vision phone you can do it yourself on their
web page.
The newer phones, especially the sanyo's seem to work better than the
old phone you mentioned, and the battery life on most is much better
too--by the way these Li-on batteries are great, but they deteroiate,
whether used or not used--so if you buy a used phone, you will be
getting an old battery--and a lot of the batteries on ebay and other
places aren't as good as and OEZ battery.
The sanyo 4700 (not a flip) is probably the best phone I ever owned..all
things considered. Sprint has no current bar phone from sanyo unless
you can find a 4900 (my curent phone)--when PTT comes out, and if it
coincides with the typical holiday rates there will be a lot of phones
on the market, and probably some great rate offers.
If you are not now under contract, you might want to read some of the
posts on the retention subject--you might be surprised what you are
offered, but they all involve a contract--but I believe that all plans
are available month to month for an extra $10--I have done that
too..it's just give and take, like any other thing in life or business.
