I'm interested in upgrading to a PDA phone, either the Treo 300 or 600
(when it comes out) but am getting some conflicting info about what kind of
plan is required.
The Free & Clear Plan (for the 300) or the Vision Free & Clear Plan (for
the 600) provides voice, messaging, games, ringtones, screensaves and web
access according to the brochures in the stores. But the sales guy at my
local SprintPCS Store said that to use the web browser on the handspring
phones, a data plan is required as well ($80 for unlimited or $70 for 70
minutes).
I cant seem to find this anywhere. Aren't the Dataplans just for the
datamodems only and not web equipped phones like the Treo?

Re: PDA Phone question
Never trust the sales guys. I have a Treo 300 with a Vision Free & Clear
Plan. That lets me access my email and the web without per/KB charges.
The data plans are for the wireless modem cards.

The box said Windows 98 or better, so I installed SuSE Linux.

Thats really messed up, Vision data is billed in kilobytes, not minutes.
You can get whatever plan you want, Free& Clear or Free&Clear America,
vision or no vision etc..
I think with the PDA phones unliminted vision is an extra $30 per month,
though.

$30 Vision price is for Pocket PC PDAs only. Palm PDAs are the normal
$15.

I asked the guy specifically, isn't that just for the modem cards? And he
said no, I would need to buy a data plan as well.
Sometimes I dont know if these guys are just ill informed or if they are
really trying to get you to buy way more than you need.
Thanks for all the replies everybody.

Re: PDA Phone question
Well lets just say this, DONT GET A DATA ONLY PLAN!!
If you do your are charged like 40-50 cents per minute I think if you
make voice calls.. Thats why they are DATA ONLY plans.. means NO
VOICE!.. I am not really sure of the cost per minute, but I know you
wouldnt want to be charged it anyways.. You need a normal free and clear
plan WITH vision for PDA phones.. HOWEVER I do think they charge extra
to have unlimited vision for use on PDA phones I think its $30 for
unlimited Vision instead of $15... However If you are ALREADY on a
vision plan, I would stress that you do not want to change plans to
activate the new phone.. I plan on doing this whenever the 600 comes
out.. or if the get any smaller pda phone with windows pocket pc on it.

Re: PDA Phone question
I agree, some of the reps are a little unknowledgeable. The regular
vision applies for all PHONES this includes anything that can be used
as a phone. The cards cannot.
By the way what city is this rep in and at what store? I don't need a
name, i am just curious.

Re: PDA Phone question
$15 applies to Palm powered phones. $30 applies to PC powered phones. I
own two and this is the case for me.

Re: PDA Phone question
Actually I have the Toshiba Thera, which uses the pocket pc 2002
software, and they only charge me for standard vision services, but
thats what i started with on my 8100, so maybe thats why.

Raleigh, NC Glenwood Ave.
He actually turned to the other rep who backed him up on this bit of
misinformation
