Use a better analogy, if Ford does more harm than was already there
before the accident i.e. my car was hit, but still ran good, and then
while at Ford the mechanic carelessly allows your transmission to fall 8
feet onto the floor while unbolting it would be liable for replacing
your transmission. The only reason you do not do that with a cell phone
is that it is not economical to do so at every location (that is why
Sprint farms out it's refurbishing to Solectron) and replace the entire
    phone.

Wrong analogy. How about a window of your car spontaneously pops out
    of its frame and breaks.

That happened to me on a Sunay, I had it fixed that day by an
independant glass shop, and the manufacturer
after I filed a complaint sent me a check for my expenses.

Apparently Sprint secretly has a list of phones that it knows have
problems with screens breaking on their own (maybe from internal
    heat)?

How about a helpful SprintPCS employee listing those???

    Bad idea.

While a window popping out of its frame is a potentially
dangerous thing, a cracked cellphone screen isn't.

By posting the "bad" phones, all you'll accomplish is
a bunch of owners, who don't particularly like their
phones, intentionally cracking them for a replacement.

It's not a secret list... we just have a list of things that are under
investigation or have been proven to be "known issues" with certain
phones. If a customer calls in and says their screen is blank or it is
getting hot for example, we check this list and find out if it is known
with that phone. If it is, we tell them and they can go get it
replaced. It is not every one of that model either, it may just be a
certain range of ESN's or ones that were distributed between certain
dates. I don't feel I can give a list of this because I don't know if
it is proprietary or not... if I find that it is not and I can give that
information without getting fired, I will be happy to.

The same way defense attorneys get those secret documents, disgruntled
ex empolyees with an axe to grind. I'm sure after some trolling around
Google you can get a good idea of what handsets have screen issues with
sprint by playing the averages. Tell you what, do a little legwork on
the boards and see what list you come up with. I'm sure you will get
    some very interesting answers.

You must live in a cynical world of paranoia. Not just in this thread,
but in others where you think someone or something is holding
information from you on purpose, and you are suspicious of everyone in
here (unless they agree with your opinion 100%). You think everyone is
out to get you. Well, if I acted like you do in here, I would worry
    too.

What's more, this is the first time that this type of damage has been

If you're not willing to make it public, then how else whould it be
described. SECRET seems to fit perfectly.

Paranoia, certainly if some screens break on their own,
(a known issue) they do so in a way that demonstrates that.

It's not secret because if a customer were to call in and say I am
having this problem, and we see that it is a known issue, we tell them
exactly that. We also explain that they can go into a PCS store and
have it replaced, or we replace it over the phone with them. Just
because I am not willing to put the whole list out on a Public Forum for
everyone to come at me like wolves doesn't make it secret. With some of
the people that post in here, if you think for one minute that wouldn't
    happen... think again.

You mean there's no assumption in trying the analogy of:

"Wrong analogy. How about a window of your car spontaneously pops out
    of its frame and breaks."

    hmm?

    Or when you later stated:

"Paranoia, certainly if some screens break on their own,
(a known issue) they do so in a way that demonstrates that."

No one anywhere has said this is a known issue with 8100's. So where=20
did the "known issue" come into the picture?

I can't say whether you are, in fact, making assumptions, but you're=20
