I am in the Orlando area and my Samsung I330 has gone into wireless
mode off mode by itself several times in the last two weeks (ie, the
phone turns off even though the Palm function still is powered up). My
wife's Treo 300 also keeps dropping out of phone service and requires
the unit to be reset to re aquire the Sprint network. Several other
people I know have reported thier phones spontaneously turning
themselves off in the last couple of weeks (the ones I know of are all
    Vision Phones).

I called Sprint and talked to a "tech" rep who informed me that there
is no network condition he knows of that could cause phones to go out
of wireless mode or to shut off. He then told me that he didnt even
have a way to record this call in his database. I suppose its no
suprise that the techs cant spot a network problem that thier customer
service people have no way of putting into thier database.

Has anyone else experienced this in the last couple of weeks?

It may do this if it loses the network Signal. If your are in a dead
zone, a building where the signal does not penetrate, or even on your
belt in a car where the signal is weak..

And call in again, it is inexecusable for tech not to record it in his
database. More likely he didnt do it because he couldnt instally close
    the trouble ticket.

If your problem does not get solved call Executive Services:

Take it to a store to be tested and updated (if needed).

    BUT FIRST:
Back up all your data with the PC sync. For some reason, the software
can sometimes erase the data, we warn all the customers before we
update the phones, and if they insist on us doing it before they back
    it up, we're not responsible.

I just got back from the orlando area, and did not have my phone turn off.

I am using an I-500, my friends were using N400 and the only problem we had
other than certain buildings with no signal was the batteries on my friends
phones were not charged all the way so they died.

    Re: Phone Shutting Off

There is nothing at all in our network that will cause a phone (or phone
mode on Palm or Pocket PC devices) to automatically power down. That
would be something in either the software or hardware within the phone
itself. First step would be to take the phone to a Sprint Store for a
diagnostics test. As far as the rep stating there is no way to document
the issue, we do document it in your account, however, if we determine
the issue to be a phone failure we do not send reports on it. I believe
the stores do, however, I am not sure about that at all.

What does that have to do with an I330?

That is bull****. The A460 had a similar problem in Chicago where the
network would shut off the phone. The Sanyo series still have problems
when the network is being tuned up where they need to be powered down
and then back up. The "tech" is very simply lying to you.

If any cdma phone does not respond to the base station power control
commands the base station will command the phone to shut off.

Whether the base station is errantly sending the command, or the phone
really isn't complying with orders to either increase or decrease the
    phone's RF power, I can't say.

To reiterate, the phone did not "shut off" or power down, The handset
went into the "Phone Off" or "aircraft" mode where the palm features
were avaialble, but the wireless mode had to be turned back on.

It would seem a very odd coincidence that three of my "vision" phones
display a similar behavior (The I330, Treo 300 and the A500). Sprint
is sending my wife a new Treo 300 handset as they could not find
anything wrong with hers when she brought it into the store. I have a
couple of weeks of warranty left on my I330 and will probably do the
same thing. It just seems incredible that Sprint would not track this
sort of thing or even bother to bump it up to the next level of tech
support incase some previously unknown network issue is going on.

Just to rub salt on the wound, I took the time to go to the Sprint Web
site and try to send an email documenting this issue. Out of the 1200
characters available, I used about 1150. When I hit the submit button,
it returned an "error" message. I hit the back button, and my message
was of course gone. I rewrote the message and tried to send it again,
and again it failed (this time I saved it in notepad). Then, a window
popped up to "Rate this Website". I gave the website all Double
negatives for all catagories and filed in the appropriate comment
areas. I hit the submit button and guess what? I recieved a "No
    Permission to This Server" error.

I really like my I330. Sprint vision is ok for quick web page
browsing, short emails and SMS (with add on software of course). As
far as customer service goes, Sprint has to be at the bottom of the
barrel and the sooner I can dump them the better. Hopefully I'll get
another year or two out of this phone and then I'll do anything I can
to switch to another provider. I'm not sure which one, but Sprint will
definitely be on the bottom of the list.

I don't have the same phone as you, but my Kyocera 2345 has been shutting
itself down for about 3 months occassionally. My wife's has never done it
though. My keylock comes on automatically 30 seconds after I use it, so
I'm not rubbing the power key against something by accident. In fact, my
phone has powered itself off several times while sitting on a table or
something at the house. So that rules out any kind of blunt force or
pressure on the phone from sitting in your car seat for example and
having your phone jammed up against the seatbelt latch or something. This
is not a vision phone...in fact it's a peice of crap. I still kick myself
for not getting the Sanyo 4900 for free when I signed up. I can't wait
for the 7200 to come out!

If the transmitter in your phone doesn't respond to the power control
messages from the BTS, the system can shutdown/reboot your phone so it
    doesn't interfere with other phones.
