No Verizon does the same thing
I just droped them after I had the same problem with verizon.
I could stand on the street most anywhere and I could not make a call due
to being locked on a verizon tower several miles away. When I would go
inside a building with a metal roof and wala I hade full sig on "roam"
I think they all do the same "connect to our towers if the phone can
detect any amount of signal" It comes down to money.
