My son is going to buy a Treo 600 and when in the store getting more
information he was told that the Treo 600 will not be capable of "roaming".

I thought this phone was dual band so we could have roaming finally after
the fiasco with the Treo 300 being single band.

    Rob?

Its single band, I believe, in order to save battery power. BCA

Re: no roaming on Treo 600?

It can roam on 800mhz CDMA, so it will be able to roam on Verizon, US
Cellular and Alltel, so a good majority of the US is covered at least
    in roam.

Does anyone know if you can use this in conjunction with the Free and
    Clear America add on?

The Treo 600 is dual-band CDMA 800mHz/1900mHz. It should roam on Verizon,
but not T-Mobile or other GSM networks. It will not work on analog
    networks.

    I'll have to double-check, but I think the phone is multi-band, but=20
digital-only. No analog. 1900 and 800 MHz digital only.

Boy what a screwup! I called Handspring to be advised that the phone will
NOT roam and they didn't know it until a couple of weeks ago.

Noting some say it will roam on Verizon ... I wonder since they also said
the phone would NOT work on the Verizon network.

Sad as that was a phone I really 'wanted' to have.

    Thanks Guys,

A *very* good question. Since the phone *can* utilize other networks than=
    =20
SPCS, my initial impression is that F&CA *can* be put in place. But I'll s=
    ee=20
if I can get some official word on that.

Without F&CA, you pay 50=A2/min for roaming, PLUS 25=A2/min for long distan=
    ce calls=20
from where you're at to wherever you're calling. Even on another digital=
    =20

Not necessarily. Depends on what the phones PRL tells it to do, and whetrher
Sprint has roaming agreements in a given area with Verizon. It's far from
    automatic.

In some areas, the fact that the Treo 600 can not do Analog roaming WILL MEAN
it can not do any roaming.

Someone at SprintPCS knows what will happen in your zipcode, but good luck
    trying to get that information.

The correct statement is it "could" roam on the Verizon Network.

It is a single band, 1900 Mhz, phone, so it can not roam on 800
Mhz. FCA is not available on single band phones as the primary phone,
    but maybe as an Add-a-Phone.

I don't know where you get your information from. The Treo 300 is
single band 1900 mhz only. The 600 is dual band digital, 800/1900 mhz.
It's fully capable of roaming on Verizon for voice services.

Call Handspring to see if you get the same story ... I called them twice
and was told the 600 would not work on Verizon's network.
