Sanyo 8100 parts/service

I cracked the outer case of my Sanyo 8100. The damage is cosmetic -- the
phone still works fine. Sprint tells me the phone is considered a
"consumable item" and cannot be repaired. I have trouble accepting that
answer. Does anyone know of a source of parts or service for this phone.
I've looked for a used or defective phone on eBay, but they're all too
expensive.
