This is not good. For the past several days my Sanyo 4900
has been beeping as it looses and gets back a signal. Screen
says Digital Roaming and sometimes Analog Roaming. I verified
that its set for Sprint PCS only for the network choice.
Today was the worst, couldn't make any calls at all without
roaming. Considering that 90% of my calls are from working at
home (I use the PCS-to-PCS and unlimited night and weekends
extensively), I might start sounding like Justin if this
isn't resolved.

Has to be a problem with the phone not the network.

Re: Digital and analog roamin message
As crappy as Sprint's network can be, that really sounds more like a phone
issue than anything else, especially if the phone is ignoring your "Sprint
PCS Only" preference. That's not a problem I've seen in a 4900 before, but
I have seen it on a couple other Sprint PCS phones.
Most interesting one was an LG1010 that claimed to be analog roaming.
....quite a stunt for a phone that's digital-only.

So i guess sticking it in the microwave wasn't a good idea.

As others have piped in, this sounds like a phone issue and not a system
issue. You might want to take your phone into your local SPCS store and
have it tested ...

Well...It doesn't appear to be phone related. My spare phone
that's not activated is doing same thing and two neighboors
are experiencing the same problem now.
I'm going out on a limb here, what if the cell coverage was
realigned? But that wouldn't explain getting a digital roaming
message, more likely an analog roaming message if I'm out
of range of the tower. Keep in mind, I'm over four miles from
the tower to begin with.
Yeah...yeah...Time to call executive services. No need to bother
calling CS, going to a store, or using common sense to fix what may
be a simple problem. Again, JUST KIDDING!

Re: Digital and analog roamin message
It may be a little problem, easily fixed at the store, or the phones might
benefit from a new PRL which can be done over-the-air, or it could just be
increased traffic has decreased the effective range of the tower(s), and an
area that was well covered by Sprint is now at the feather edge fringe. Sounds
all too much like Justin's situation to me.
Good luck JRW, and report back.

Four different model phones all within a quarter mile radius, all
started experiencing the same problem at the time? That doesn't
sound liek a handset problem. If it was just one phone, then I would
tend to agree with you.

This is what I'm thinking. For past three nights, its been impossible
to use the phone right after 9:00. It might be the cell is loading up
and the noise floor is increasing to the point where my signal is the
weakest one.

Might be solar flares if it just started to happen. Take the battery
out and reset to see if it is ok now. Here is an article about it

The problem I'm having is similar to when I work a data center
which is very RF shielded. Sprint phones go into analog roaming
mode.

Re: Digital and analog roamin message
If you have the phone in Sprint only, it cannot go into roaming unless the
phone is not properly reading the PRL or the PRL is screwed up, and most
unlikely would be someone is transmitting the same PN as sprint in that
area. When it says Digital roam try to call CS and see whose you get.

Took both of my phones into Sprint store. Both checked out
all right and have most current software.
Both phones are still jumping in and out of digital and analog
roaming.
Shows four bars, but that of course is misleading as it doesn't
reflect the current noise floor as cell loading increases. It just
shows I'm in range of the tower.

Monday morning call the 817 Executive Services number and give them the choice.
Either you get free roaming, or you get out of Early termination Fee. A phone
must be "Fit for Purpose" if you are no longer covered by Sprint, the contract
is null and void as Justin Green found out.
If you get no satisfaction mail in your phone and one month's payment, with a
copy of your letter to your states Attorney General, and certified to Sprint in
Fort Worth.

I'm going to start watching it for a week and start calling CS everytime
it happens. Once I can demonstrate there is indeed an issue, I'll have
more leverage.

Re: Digital and analog roamin message
I find it hard to believe that a phone set to Sprint PCS only mode could
go into analog or digital roaming without it being a problem with the
phone.
