I've had my Sanyo SCP 5150 for about a year and a half and have always loved
how well it holds a signal on Cape Cod. At my house in Marstons Mills (near
Hyannis), I used to never, ever get dropped calls, just a solid 4 bars of
signal and never a problem.
Now, for the last month and a half or so, my phone will randomly drop
calls - going from 4 bars to none and right back (and in the process hanging
up on whomever I'm talking to, of course). This occurs in the exact same
spot in my house where - for well over a year- I had NEVER dropped a single
call!
What gives? Any ideas? Think it's the phone, or is there something going on
with changes in Sprint's towers/service out in this area? Any
ideas/suggestions are much appreciated!

This is a recurring sad story that Sprint ignores customers about. Basically
they've oldersold their service in your area. You have a number of choices:
1. Learn to live with it.
2. Write to your State's Attorney General with a certified copy to Sprint
asking to be let out of your contract since they are no longer providing
adequate service, and your phone is now "Not fit for purpose".

Could be your phone is going bad. If it's convenient to go to a Sprint
PCS store and have it checked out, that's my recommendation.
Is there someone with another Sprint PCS phone that could help you
check out your location at the time you're having problems?

Unless the user has problems everywhere, or has recently had the phone
underwater or dropped it on concrete, more likely the network is overloaded.

Not necessarily Phillipe. There could be a number of factors, including the
above. Could be more traffic which is causing cell shrinkage, but if that
was the case, he should be noticing the problems outside as well. Could be
that the phone does need to be checked out. Might be wise for the OP to
check and make sure he's got the most recent PRL - 10021.

If the problem suddenly popped up, how is his phone which didnt change its PRL
the fault?
GET REAL.

Oh, might be that SPCS has tweaked / reaimed their towers in the area, added
another frequency in the area ... I'm not saying that this is the case, but
it's a possibility.

That is a possibility, but if thats the case, at the end of the day, its
exactly the same as if the towers pattern has shrunk from overuse. Changing PRL
will not help. He's still SOL. and his two choices remain:
1. Live with it.
2. Quit Sprint and get out of ETF as its their fault if the network has
changed.

Yea, well coverage has never been guaranteed inside a structure. For that
matter, it's not even guaranteed anywhere ... for any cellular provider.

All true and exactly why the industry Consumer Code is worthless, as it doesnt
address the issue of what do you do when your service/coverage
fades/disappears.
Those that stand up for what's reasonable, like Justin Green, have always been
able to leave their carrier without paying a Termination fee. A cell phone must
be "Fit for Purpose".

Re: Recent Signal problems on Cape Cod :^C
Over the past couple of months they have been having some problems with
at least one tower I know of on the outer Cape.
The tower has completely "died" at least twice that I know of. (try
explaing that to Customer Service).
I doubt your problem is overloading - this time of year there should be
plenty of capacity here on the Cape. I'd call the Hyannis store and
talk to the Tech there an see if he knows of any specific problems.

Wouldn't you think if SprintPCS had tower problems, they'd fix them?
At the end of the day, his problem is still the same. His phone drops calls.
1. Live with it.
2. Quit Sprint and dont pay the ETF if they cant cover your area.
