Hi everyone -
Is it possible to have caller ID on a verizon wireless phone? I know
when I call someone, they see my number, but can I have a my name or
business name displayed as well?
I got rid of my home and business line, and now just use my cell phone
with a hugh amunt of minutes for all home, business, and cellular calls.
thanks
matt

If I understand your question correctly, I don't think it's possible.
If your area only shows the number along with the city and state (as
mine does), then no. Some providers in other areas, however, do show
the name. I have a relative who has T-Moble in Ohio, and when she
calls, it shows her name and number.

Re: CALLER ID question
Incoming calls, on any carrier.. only show the phone number.. and usually a
name will come up on most phones if that persons number is in your voice
mail.
On the receiving end whenever you call someone, generally that person will
only see your number with Verizon along with the City name (Seattle Call for
example). In SOME areas though, the name will show up.. it depends on the
local Verizon system. This is true for AT&T too. T-Mobile, and Sprint are
two companies that do show the names though in most areas. I don't know
about Cingular, or Nextel.

Re: CALLER ID question
Typically, and as far as I know, the name will not show up unless the person
you are calling has you in their phone book. If you are in their phone book
they see the name (the one they entered for you in their book!), else they
see just the number.

He was asking about the other way around. If he calls a land line
from his cell, could he have the name on his account appear on the
land line's CID box.

This will work if there is an agreement between the cellular company and the
landline company. Sprint PCS used to work here in SBC land, but doesn't
anymore due to the two companies not being able to agree upon cost.
Cingular does work here though. Not surprising since it is 60% owned by
SBC.

QWest, at least in Minnesota, displays my name on caller ID when I call from
my SprintPCS cell phone. T-Mobile, Verizon and Nextel do not show (I am not
sure about ATTWS).

You must not live in the same SBC area I do then. When I call a landline
number from my Cingular cell phone the name comes up as "Cellular Call". I
live in the Detroit area.

Houston area. SprintPCS and VerizonWireless calls show up as "Out of Area"
or "Unavailable" here...not sure about the other wireless companies here.

Actually, this depends a lot on what agreement VZW has with the local
phone company in your area. If it's not Verizon, then chances are VZW
hasn't negotiated an agreement with that local phone company to pass the
name info on along with the number (generally, competing phone companies
charge each other a fee per call to pass that info between networks, and
it's subject to negotiation). If VZW has negotiated, then chances are
the local phone company decided the price was too high.
Otherwise, it should be be possible. Maybe give VZW a call and see what
they say?
