Portable numbers and VZW

As I am in the process of upgrading to a new phone this week, and VZW won't
let me renew on my current plan, I have to select a new plan. For the $80
I've been paying, I've been getting 1200 minutes, but the same $80 now gets
me only 1100 minutes.

Someone at work suggested I wait until November 24 when number portability
hits, on the possibility that new plans will be offered. I've read about
this, but I expect that there will be more people switch to VZW than from
it. I think that means that VZW plan offerings be no better--and possibly
worse--than they are now. Or, will the new competitive environment after
Nov. 24 mean more valuable plans?

Should I wait until Nov. 24 to change my plan, or not?

I wouldn't sign up for a plan. Just keep paying for 1200 minutes.

That is an apparent change in policy. In the past, VZW has left my plans
intact due to being "grandfathered". This includes some very attractive
minute packages, both digital and strictly analog.

Is there more to the story?

Really, you're concerned about a 09 percent differenance?

This _is_ a change. The code for the plan I am on, apparently is no longer
available on their computer. They say they cannot renew or extend my current
plan.

Well, it's just that the difference between 1200 hours and 1100 hours seems
small enough that other factors might outweigh it. Things like length of
contracts, upgraded phones, new every two, text messages included or not
included, nights, weekends, mobil to mobil, etc.... Is the hours the only
difference? Just curious.

FACT: The only time most SUVs go off the road is when the owner turns into her driveway.

Same plan, same features, same price. The only difference is that the plan I
originally purchased has been replaced by an identical one with 100 fewer
minutes, and no additional features to compensate for that loss.

My monthly usage tends to run close to 1200 minutes, so this slimmer
allocation of minutes in the new plan could result in overage charges, force
me to bump up to a more expensive plan, or try to curtail my usage. Or some
combination of these.

As Sprint just came out with the 7.00pm start , i would wait if i were you.
i think they plans will get better after 24th. Good luck. PS I am in same
boat as you and am waiting to get a better plan)))

Anyone buying into a new contract before the price wars start over
portability is CRAZY! The talking heads were on Fnn with some
cellular anal-ist from one of the big mutual fund houses, just
yesterday, discussing the upcoming price wars in the cellular business
because the customer can flee and take his number with him.

HOLD OFF! DON'T BUY IT NOW! I know that goes against everything
you've ever been taught in our buy-now/pay-later society, but HOLD OFF
anyway!

According to the people who make millions on cellular stock, wait 6-8
MONTHS (not minutes) and there's gonna be some sweet honey deals, even
from the Verizon monster......

I have such a plan and put a new phone on it. You don't have to extend or
renew the contract, because it's good until YOU get out of it. Buy the phone
and then switch from your current phone to the new one. I think where you are
having the problem, is wanting a subsidized phone.

It's a trade-off. Pay for the razor or pay for the blades, but
Gillette will win either way.

Doesn't affect me at all. I like my LG 4400, and don't see myself
changing phones at all. And I can change to a new promotional price
plan at any time, so if VZW offers something like 7 PM nights or early
weekends, I can weigh any deficiencies with my current plan (800
anytime, unlimited N/W, 1000 MTM) and change if it's attractive to me.

The early night hours are tempting, but not on the Sprint network!
And YOU try using that beloved bagphone of yours on Sprint. Heh.
