I would really like to hear from some people who have the VX6000. I don't
want to make the same mistake
I made with the T720. Pleeeease.

I'd buy it, EXCEPT, I live out west. Many analog areas.

Re: About to buy an LG VX 6000
I live "out West" in Arizona and am using a VX6000 and love it. All of the
native Verizon areas are digital. The problem will be if you are on the
extended network in places which are analog. For instance, in Mohave County,
AZ, the roaming partner is Mohave Cellular which is only analog. Their
service is pretty crappy even on analog. The former preferred roaming
partner was Sprint and for reasons too length to go into here is no longer a
roaming partner. However, by fiddling with my phone on NAM2, I am still able
to use Sprint in Mohave County without paying roaming charges.
My 6000 will hold a digital signal much longer and have better quality than
my Moto 270c. Even though the 270c had analog, by the time it switched to
analog the signal was so poor, I still couldn't talk.
The vx6000 is the best phone I've ever used.

Okay, then review some of the previous posts in this newsgroup. Plenty of
feedback there.
It's a great phone.

Actually AIUI they're digital, but TDMA won't work on a VZW phone.

Well if that's true, then I should be able to use Sprint in Apple Valley
without paying roaming. The reason Sprint is no longer in the PRL is because
Kingman, AZ and vicinity are part of Sprint's Los Angeles SID. VZW has coverage
in most of the area that that SID covers, and that's why you can't roam onto
it.

I don't have one...By most accounts the VX600 is a very good digital
only phone. It's been out long enough, receiving lots of hands on
testing and any of the minor bugs and quirks have come to light. There
shouldn't be any surprises. Prices go down and accessories become more
available, as the model matures. There's also a wealth of user tips
and experience accumulated. That's the advantage about purchasing
later in a handset life cycle.
Verizon is likely to release new handsets shortly, offering more
alternatives to the VX 6000. But then the whole user testing and
knowledge base takes time to accumulate.

Just buy it.
If you don't like it give it back.
In 14 days of purchase you can do that.

I had the T720. Loved it. Bought it Feb. 1st. Started having problems
May/June. It would turn off, sound lousy, loose calls, screen would go out,
all kinds of wierd things. Verizon traded it for refurbs 3 times. Same
crap. Then they gave me a new one. It was worse than any of the refurbs.
I needed the phone and use around 1500 minutes a month. Well, they let me
change to whatever I wanted, crediting me with what I paid for the T720 and
all accessories I bought. This was around the 15th of August. Then I
bought the VX6000 and since I returned Mobile Office and at the time I they
did not have it for the VX6000, I came out ahead. I was between the VX6000
and the Samsung A530. I decided to go with the VX6000 because our old
LG510s (2 of them) have been beat to hell and still work great.
It has been good. I only use the camera as a toy, since I have a good
digital, but it is fun. I have taken maybe 10 pictures. Quality is not bad
I use one of my husband at our favorite nite spot while on vacation as
the
background.
So far, so good. But, it is now 3-1/2 months old - about the same age as
the T720 was when problems started.

Re: About to buy an LG VX 6000
Do I read this correctly: The VX6000 will hold a digital signal as
well as a 270c ? The 270c is supposed to be one of the phones with
the best RF performance VZW sold (with the possible exception of the
StarTac ST7868W).

From my experience, recent digital handsets outperform the 7868. I've
compared several side by side with my 7868's, making calls to 611 in
fringe _digital_ areas.
The 7868 is not as good as the v60i and Audiovox 9500 for example in
digital mode. Haven't tested the vx6000...got to get my hands on one!
It's the 7868's analog performance that shines, because of the higher
(pre SARs) power output.
The good performing digital phones seem to just keep getting better.
All digital handsets will have to improve, considering the wider tower
spacing in many areas, as Verizon converts to digital.
