#1 | | Guest | Let me say first that I do not sell this device nor do I have any
interest in it. I am just happy to let you know of its availability.
I am one of the growing percentage of cell phone users who has turned
off my land line phone.
A similar gadget has been available for Nokia phones but in today's
Wall Street Journal, it was advertised for the Motoroal phone series.
It is a gadget which you can connect (has a REN 3.0 whcih means you
can probably hook up 3 or 4 land line phones to it) your land line
phones to your Motorola cell phone when you are in your house, summer
cottage, etc. This means with the cell phone in this device and it is
connected to your land line phones, you can answer cell phone calls;
you can originate cell phone calls; and, do a bunch of cell phone type
functions with the "standard" phones in your house.
I don't know about you but it is "pain" to carry my cell phone with me
when I'm home. Now you can drop it in the unit and use any phone in
your house as I note above.
The unit is called a Cell Socket. It is made by WHP Wireless. There
are two Internet sites where you can get info: www.cellsocket.com www.whpwireless.com
The first site is for the Motorola unit while the second site is the
company's home page showing this unit and other products.
I'm picking one up for my Holiday present.

I have a CellSocket on order for my T720. The new Motorola units recharge
your cell phone at the same time where the older Nokia models didn't. Watch
the pricing in the market....several websites are claiming to be the
exclusive distributors. There are many people selling these and the prices
vary. There is great demand for the Motorola units...my distributor has
2000 coming in and already has 600 orders.

Holy $.... We had a half a dozen of those bag phones.. And we gave em
all away for free. And here we were sitting on a goldmine.
I may have 3 or 4 at home. If I sell them, I can RETIRE!

Too bad those other responders to my posting (Larry W4CSC and Evan)
didn't go to the web sites I listed to see that the Cell Socket is for
hand-held Motorola cell phones and not for the (ancient) bag-phones.
Besides at the site Larry indicates it shows a price of almost $300
USD for the bag-phone data unit while the cell Socket sells for under
$140. USD.
Since I "turned off" my land line I've been wondering what to do with
the spare line on my two line phones (we actually kept my wife's
land-line going); now I have a use for it. And as I said, no more
carrying the cell phone around on my belt while at home.
Would appreciate hearing back as to how you find the unit when you get
it.
BTW, WHP Wireless only lists one "authorized" distributor on their web
site. In fact their distributor sells the unit for a slightly higher
price than WHP does on their own web site!

#6 | | Guest | I have a whole list of bookmarks of sites selling the NEW Motorola
CellSocket...I went with obviously (2000 coming in) a very large distributor
who has direct contact with WHP. Want some even neater news, there is a
cellsocket coming that will accept multiple cellphones and ring different
tones on the old handsets. Let everyone come home, put all their cellphones
in one device and let the landline handsets handle the calls.
My Motorola CellSocket is scheduled to ship on 12/9. I will keep you
posted. Thanks for the tip on the WSJ article...I enjoyed reading it.

I have 4 of them, here. The one I'm using was in brand-new condition.
I paid $1 for it in a thrift shop. Most I've had to pay for them in
great condition is $5....
You didn't lose much, but should consider keeping them for emergency
comms in all family cars. Makes a great way to contact 911 when the
toyphone glitzy is DEAD.

#8 | | Guest | How's the reception and clarity though? I have full signal in my home with
my cell phone and that clarity doesn't come close to a land line phone at
all. Then there's the weird static noises and lost packets every now and
then with the cell phone too. I wonder if the reception is terrible or not?

The reception with the adapter will be exactly the same as the
reception without the adapter (with the exception that the little
antenna on the adapter will improve the reception a little bit). If
the cell phone drops packets, you'll hear it on the wired phones
connected to it. | | | |

Did you receive the unit (shipped 12/9)?
If so how about a report about how it works. You didn't mention what
kind of Motorola phone you have - what model? My wife and I use 120
types (me - "C" and she - "E" type) and we have two phone lines
throughout the house (only using one of them) so I can connect the CS
to the spare line and have it apprear on the two-line wired phones.
Will watch here for your report....

#12 | | Guest | I contacted them to become a distributor. "Ahem" They said they were
backordered till January 2004, and I'll have to wait. When I said I had
people waiting to try the product they said they might be able to find one
(1) only a V120 compatible model and let me evaluate it.
Doesn't it seem strange to anyone that we have such a fuss about this
technology, yet no one has tried the product, the product seems to be a real
"plus", but is back ordered because of demand, yet those demanding it, can't
seem to get it.
In the software business we had a term for this "vapor-ware". I hope it is
real, but some real practical experience from someone that the product works
good/bad, would be a welcome addition to this thread.
The Dr. who hopes it is the best of products and would love to use it, sell
it, distribute it.

#14 | | Guest | I contacted them to become a distributor.

#15 | | Guest | The major difference between this and "vaporware" is that the original one
has been sold and used for a few years (I have one for my nokia and love
it), this is just a new version for CDMA phones.
I never heard the term vaporware being used for an upgrade to an existing
product.
