In the course of one day, I got 5 different answers from Verizon. The
CSRs on the phone said that my 1-yr contract was over and so were the
promos that went with the contract. That's why I had to pay $10 each
extra for M2M and unl n&w. I went to the local VZW store and was told
by the salesperson that the reason I was charged the $20 was because I
went over my minutes and that I should sign on to a plan with more
minutes. I assured her I had not used up all my peak mins during the
past month. After 5 mins of arguing, she went to talk to her manager,
came back and without admitting her fault said that they would credit
the $20 and from no on, I'd have to pay only $39.99 as before, w/out
renewing my contract. That said, she did ask me to renew the contract
without giving a good reason why I should. So far, no $20 credit on my
    bill.

Let's see if VZW does win this game and force me to sign another
    contract.

I know it's not quite the same, just related, but I always wondered why (and
can get no single answer) the "new every two" (supposedly a new phone every
two years) date resets when you do something as non-phone related as add
minutes to your plan, or change phone numbers etc. What does that
"Contract/Plan Date" have to do with a new phone, and why do they reset the
contract start dates on a whim so you no longer qualify for new phone
because the date has been reset for something stupid, or by the whim of a
stupid CS person? <I've had the contract date reset even though there were
NO changes, I just called to ask about something> , or for no reason
whatsoever just so my new phone date goes to a year in the future?

At that point I would have said "you get your manager up here and pull up
my usage and billing info, now."

Is that what you were told?

I believe the New Every Two applies to the date you got the phone not
the contract. By this I mean if you change or renew a contract before
your two years is up your New Every Two does not start over even
    though your contract date does.

At least that was what I was told by CS.

Curious, that's what I was told multiple times by a salesman, but in reality
have had it happen the way described above multiple times. Wonder if the
salesman lied to me or if the contracts/customer service people etc are all
    lying.

As far as my contract in L.A. goes, the date they have in the computer is when
i first signed up for a 2 year plan, which was January 2002. I've been told by
CSR's on the phone and in the store that even though i did change some things
during the two years, the date that mattered was when i first signed a
    participating contract.

ALSO, you can get your New Every Two, 2 months before your contract is up.
I've been able to get my $100 credit since November. I'm getting the T730 in a
couple of weeks when i have room on my credit card for the $50 plus taxes.

Don't count on getting that credit in a few weeks. When I went in to
upgrade, I didn't like any of the phones. The salesguy told me new phones
were coming in a few weeks. Went back to upgrade, sorry, you can't do that
    now.

Since then I've had then quote prices on new phones, then I call back later
the same day and get different prices.

The last time I upgraded, they quoted prices, then when the bill came in, it
was $50 more than quoted. CSR basically said tough, return the phone if you
    don't want it.

Next time I want a new phone I'm switching companies.
