*228 options

I know it's good to periodically update the Preferred Roaming List (*228,
option 2) but what about selecting option 1- Programming- to update that?

Good idea-bad idea? What exactly would that do?

I always choose 1. That way you get the new PRL too.

Option #2 updates the PRL only in the phone. Option #1 does the entire
programming on the phone, IE: downloads the 10 digit # into it, programs in
the correct network ID's for your area and loads the PRL. On most phones it
also sets the lock code as the default to the last 4 #'s of your mobile
number. You can do either one if you are just wanting to update the PRL,
just keep in mind if you have ever changed your lock code to a different
number that doing option #1 may reset it back to the last 4 of the phone
number.

By choosing Option #1, will it mess around with any phone numbers or
schedules I have programmed into the phone? I have a VX4400, FYI...

Re: *228 options

I was one of the unlucky people that *228'd 50128 onto a V60i on Friday, Jab
30th-- starting Saturday, Jan 31, it would go straight to analog roam mode.
Techs at Verizon store had no prior PRLs to re-flash the unit to on
Sunday...because it sounds like the pulled them all off their machines.

I ended up having to get a refurb unit to replace it and even though it has
PRL 50128, it works like it should.

I think it depends on the phone. Some brands do it, some don't.
