Need the cable and software from Verizon. Then you need to follow
these instructions taking note that you need to go to the Treetab
view. It does work. Problems I had was having to restart the program
you also need to download BitPM (search for it). I also have a problem
with ensuring that the volume of the
Midi is loud enough. I do not
have a program to make that louder as of yet.

Subject: Bitpim. wallpapers and ringtones THIS WORKS. Thank you
Wick_Carl
You can thank Wick_carl our latest moderator for most of this.
HERE ARE THE INSTRUCTIONS FOR DOWNLOADING WALLPAPER AND RINGTONES TO
YOUR VX4500 PHONE.
First use the datacable and drivers that
comes with the vx4500 Mobile Office Kit that comes
directly from Verizon. $39.00. If the store does not have
it in stock they will ship it directly to your home or
office fedex 2day free shipping.
Install the USB drivers that comes with the Mobile
Office Kit. Verizon does not have the vx4500 listed
as an option so select "ALL OTHER PHONES". You do not
need to install the Mobile Office Software if you are
planing to use Bitpim.
Download Bitpim 0.7-test3 (or the latest test version available)
from the following link.
http://bitpim.sourceforge.net/#download
If you have a previous version of Bitpim YOU MUST
DELETE the data directory for the old version. The
instructions on what to delete are on page linked
above. From what that instruction page says "YOU WILL
BE SORRY IF YOU DONT DELETE PREVIOUS VERSION DATA
DIRECTORY"
We tested the windows version on WinXP so that is all
we can speak about here.
Install the software. We tested using both the vx4400
and the vx6000 settings and it didnt look like it made
any difference. I used "AUTO" for the com settings
and it worked fine for me. If it doesnt work for you
further instructions are at the bottom of this
message.
At the top click on "VIEW" and make sure there is a
check next to "VIEW FILESYSTEM" this will add the file
system tab to the sotfware.
Click the "FILE SYSTEM" tab, click the "+" sign to expand
the file system. If you get an error right click it
and try refresh. I get an error sometimes, just try
again. Once you get the files system to view:
To add wallpapers scroll down to "
BREW" and click on
the "+" next to it. This will expand the
brew
directory. Scroll down to "SHARED" and click on the
"+" next to it. Right click "SHARED" and select "FILE NEW".
A window will pop up so you can choose a file
from your hard drive. (at this point you should
already have downloaded the wallpaper that you want to
send to your phone in the ".bmp format 120x131
resolution".) When you choose the file you want in the
popup window it should automaticaly download to your
phone.
Ringtones go in /User/Sound/Ringer. I have used
midi
polyphonic ring tone files, I have not tried mp3s.
After transfers are done, disconnect the phone and
power it off and on..your files should be able to be
found in the media option in the menu.
Avoid deleting files on the phone with BitPim, use
the phone to do that.....BitPim programmer's note
there.
PROBLEMS SELECTING COM PORT
Click on Bitpim Help
If Bitpim Help doesnt work for you try the following.
If using auto does not work to find your USB port try
the following.
you MAY need to verify what port the OS is
communicating to the cable on...and yes, I believe it
is communicating to the Prolific chip in the cable not
the phone. My computer/properties/ports. Check this
with the cable plugged in. If you don't see ports,
Prolific USB to Serial Comm Port the drivers are not
installed correctly. Take note of the com port,
COM6 for me. Start up BitPim, edit settings, set the
com port to the correct port.. it was COM6 for me.
THANKS
GREG
BitPM at:
http://bitpim.sourceforge.net/
use BitPIM 0.7-test 3 link (click on Available).
You may have to play with Com Port settings. Auto did not work for me
and I had to set to COM4
