GPS Tracking

I have seen some GPS tracking features for other carriers, but not for
Verizon. Anyone know when something like this will be available for Verizon?

Re: GPS Tracking

I think it's required by law to have GPS in the phones by year 2005(can't
remember?). Some of the phones already have Qualcomm's GPS chips inside.
Unfortunately, Qualcomm wants piece of the money, so the providers would
need to implement their GPS One system. I think currently, only emergency
services have this capability. But eventually this data would be available
to others. I heard on some phones you can actually see GPS coordinates on
them.

Re: GPS Tracking

I have VZW Audiovox 8300
which has "location" built
in. AFAIK all will have server-
assisted location, not pure GPS.
Mine does not show coordinates,
but provides information to 911
or VZW. The state that I am in
right now cannot use the information
until the end of the year. Phone
carriers have phase-in periods,
that is, a certain percentage of
the phones that they sell must have
the feature by a certain time. My
guesstimate. Regards

Re: GPS Tracking

Yes, mine has E911 built-in as well as location features. However, none of
those extra features are offered (yet) by Verizon. Some other carriers have
third-party services where you can track the cellphone online and in
realtime. Expecting Verizon to offer it sometime.
