Re: 15% discount off your monthly access

If it's anything like the group discount that I get, they verify your
information with your employer.

YMMV.

They DON'T! As long as one places an order under a partner Web site,
no further verification is done. I would know, I just started up two
new lines under our company's Verizon partner Web site (not the one
that's listed below; different company with a 21% plans discount!)

How do you find out what the % off month fees? and can this discount apply
to a current account?

I think he means that the account listed,
will turn to dust as soon as verizon finds it publicly listed.
If you are going to do something questionable,
then don't publicly broadcast it.

Most of these plans are open to retirees of the companies in question,
as well as current employees, and their families. There is simply no
easy way to keep track of this, some of these employees go back 25-30
years and they only find out about the discounts because they are
published in retiree newsletters. Family members may have different
last names, former employees may have different last names. Others are
from companies with very high turnover and literally hundreds of
thousands of employees. Some b2b sites are not even password
protected, many are protected, but they list the user names and
passwords openly. There are a lot of these sites, and few people
outside the company they are intended for know about them. I found 32
of them without much effort, with discounts ranging from 0% (!?) to
25%. Some of the plans are regional, and if you try to sign up with a
zip code that isn't included under the plan, you'll be unable to do
so.

I don't think Verizon cares all that much about people that are not
technically entitled to these discounts taking advantage of them. It's
not something many consumers are aware of, many that are aware of them
don't realize that they can actually use them, or think that it would
be dishonest to do so, and some of them that find out and actually
use them are so price sensitive that they would otherwise not be
signing up for Verizon service at all. Not worth paying people to
police this; Verizon is probably happy to have these customers even at
a discount.

Re: 15% discount off your monthly access

even if this amounts to 5 or 6 bucks a month. they can charge you the money
if they find out you're not an employee and also because of any hikes or
changes you can't get out of contract. i was thinking about it but i would
rather pay fairly and give them the 5 bucks extra instead of getting caught
etc. etc.

End User Agreement

I understand that I am authorized under the Company Agreement to activate
service and to obtain equipment at a special rate as a result of my
affiliation with Rite Aid. I further acknowledge and understand that I am
receiving a special service plan rate based on Rite Aid's overall line
attainment with Verizon Wireless. From time-to-time, my rates may be
adjusted to those associated with the actual total line attainment of Rite
Aid. I understand that I cannot terminate my service without an Early
Termination Fee because of a rate adjustment to which Rite Aid agreed; even
if the Cellular Service Agreement allows.

I acknowledge and understand that certain information relating to the
service, including name, mobile telephone number and monthly charge total
may be released to Rite Aid.

Verizon Wireless reserves the right to require proof of continued employment
with Rite Aid from me. If a review of my employment status with Rite Aid
reveals that I am no longer an employee of Rite Aid, Verizon Wireless
reserves the right to adjust the rates for the period of time I was not a
Rite Aid employee and switch me to a commercially available consumer plan or
to a non-discounted rate plan for the remainder of my Cellular Service
Agreement term.

This is true.

But a LOT of people qualify for one of Verizon's B2B discounts and
don't even know it. I found 59 different discounts on Verizon, ranging
from 5%-25%, on a google search, and low and behold, I was qualified
for one of them (18%) that I didn't even know about until yesterday!

There are discounts open to everyone in certain areas, i.e. a
retention web site for the Northeast region with 12% discounts, and an
accessory site with 25-35% discounts.

Here's the list I found with a simple search, and I'm sure that it's a
fraction of what's out there:

You're quite right. If it weren't for the 21% discount on monthly
access and deep discounts on the equipment, I'd never consider
Verizon.

I found out that my wife's employer offers an 18% discount, but I think the
best thing for me to do is get a part time job at Home Depot! 25% off, wow!

Then why are you using Verizon? Given that even with the discounts, they
can't be *that* much less expensive than the lower-priced carriers, there
has to be another reason.

I think that for a lot of people, a wireless phone is something viewed with
disdain, but they get one at the request of their spouse or employer. So a
big discount does help determine the provider. $31/month versus $35/month is
not significant, but it's enough.
