Paperless Bill

From time to time I need to go back to look at a Verizon bill. Not very
often, and only twice have I needed a hard copy. If Verizon were to make my
bill available online as a PDF file, I'd gladly give up receiving a paper
bill. I dislike having to handle and store my Verizon bills, just so I can
go back into last year's calendar time frame if need be.

If it could be saved as a PDF file, it would be a win/win outcome. I could
save the files conveniently at virtually no cost for as long as needed, and
Verizon wouldn't have the expense of sending out a paper bill. (I know my
online bill can be saved... but as an HTML file, and that just won't do.)

I agree this would be a great feature. I do have an alternative that
you can consider. There are a variety of programs out there that allow
you to create your own PDF files, and some of these programs are free.
I personally use www.pdf995.com which shows up as a printer on your
computer, and you can print any document as a PDF file.

Rich I am going to assume that if the original poster wanted to have
the file (bill) in an Adobe PDF format he would at least have the
program. if you (the original poster) have the Adobe program then you
can select print, select "Acrobat PDF Writer" in the printers dialogue
box, it will then save as a PDF.

As you stated the other way is the free add in that is available at
many sites on the net.

You must know a different class of people, most people I know would never
spend a cent on anything like a program, they want it free!!! Sorry Elector,
but I assumed the OP was a cheapskate, didn't/wouldn't pay for a program,
and wanted it free (Part of the whine.. I want it, I want it now, I want it
my way, I want it free, and I want someone else to do it for me . (but,
for rich, the PDF printer is a great idea).

Hi Peter:

My co-workers and I spend the money on these programs because they
work, they may have a huge learning curve but they do exactly as
advertised, and the cost is not a factor at least for myself.

I don't look for free software, or trial ware, or any program that is
not marketed to the retail sector. I prefer to have my boxed copies
and licenses handy. I have many such program that I have paid top
dollar for and may not use any more but the added security is that "I
own it" or should I say "I have the right to use it as much as I want
for as long as I want" ha ha.

You must have Adobe Acrobat installed to use the Acrobat PDFWriter
that is installed with the Adobe retail version (Cost around $400-$500
I recall)
It makes life so much easier to save in that format. I use PaperPort
and MS Office XP all of which can be used to send directly to PDF and
or FAX or even to the PaperPort printer (To the program) again the
user must learn how to use it before he/she can master the software.

I bet he was referring to the READER (now only named Adobe Reader)

That's free. The read/write version of Acrobat is roughly $200.

On the other hand, my web site now has, at http://JustThe.net/legal/tos/ ,
a facility where if you sign up with me, it'll generate a personalized copy
of the TOS for you to print and sign, as a PDF. The tools to do this were
freely available. There are commercial products out there too, but the tools
I used, and the web app I wrote to handle the conversion, were written in
Java, and if you look closely at the address bar on your browser when you
go to the VZW site you'll notice that they use Java also (the filenames
end in JSP -- the pages are JavaServer pages). The investment required by
Verizon would simply be to have one of their website developers create the
appropriate code to generate a PDF from the raw data output by the billing
system.

My bad. I did say "save as a PDF file" when I meant to say download it as a
PDF file that has already been created by Verizon. I realize I can "save" it
as a PDF file with just a couple of steps, but not everybody can. However,
just about everybody has Acrobat Reader installed, and thus could read such
a file.

If Verizon wants people to switch from a paper bill to paperless, they need
to have a fast and efficient way for people to store an electronic
version... and it doesn't get better than a PDF.

Steve: The Full version shows at quite a bit more. But the Upgrade
version retails for $99+Tax at the Adobe store.
http://www.adobe.com/store/products/...robat_Tax_0204

However many retailers up the price on popular software so it may even
go higher in the retail stores. Also Verizon Telephone (Not Wireless)
uses Adobe to have you save and print your invoice both in my home
accounts and business accounts (Enterprise Solutions) however they
(Verizon) is too stupid to have it function properly in that the
centering of the document is such that it cuts off the right hand side
of the invoice on printing and saving in Adobe format.

I have called them and complained and they promised to have it fixed
by the 21st. of the month. Must be another bill cycle.

The Dr offers that many people find that web printing offsets the page, and
you loose the info on the right. Suggesting that rather than just "print",
select the bill/text you want, and then print select. You'll find out that
it displays and prints correctly. It may have to do with web page frames,
but if you select, then print, it works nicely. Alternatively, your right,
the web designer should have known this, and offered you a "print" button
that prints just what you are wanting to see, rather than just using the
browser print button.

Alternately like I just got through helping out at Niagara Mohawk for
this similar problem, it is a two fold scenario:

#1 the calling server is not set as active to print (Solution: Right
click on active page and select print) this works 99% of the time.

#2 the active page frame set has extraneous ad's and junk and instead
of placing that junk to the right of the page in any view the crap is
on the left hand side which forces the junk to make the right side cut
off.

A good way to stop this is to simply leave the active frame alone and
make the ad's on the "hidden frame-Status Links" which are at the top
of each page only.

Highlighting the text as I have also tried and make it a "selection
print" also does not work which I found very strange. But like I
stated I had reported it and it should be fixed soon.
