Nokia versus Motorola?

Hello ...

I am very interested in knowing your preference between Nokia and
Motorola. I am particularly interested in the Motorola C343 and the
Nokia 3589.

Many thanks!

Linda W.

Re: Nokia versus Motorola?

Don't know about the C343, but I've had a 3589i for a week and like it. I
live in the foothills around the SF Bay area where I've always had reception
problems at home (until a week ago on AT&T Wireless with a TDMA Nokia 6360).
The Verizon Nokia 3589i works fine at my location even though the signal bar
is only 2 or 3 at times. Nokias, including the 3589i, also have good battery
life. The 3589i is compact and comfortable to use. If you don't like its
default color (the dark blue is fine for me), lots of replacement shells are
available at very low cost on eBay and can be installed without any tools.

The Nokia PC Suite software made it easy (with optinal data cable) to
transfer my contacts from my old 6360 through my PC and to manage and back
them up them going forward on the PC. Verizon however has crippled the
phones programming to prevent using the Nokia software to download custom
ringtones to the phone. You can only get ringtones by Verizon's Get it Now
service where you are charged per tone.

Supposedly you can buy some software called LogiManager, which will
upload ringtones to a 3589i:

Disclaimer: I've never used this software - this is only what I've
heard.

I've had a 3589i for months and am very happy with it also.

Re: Nokia versus Motorola?

I don't think there is anything crippled in th eNokia PC Suite for
downloading ringtones. Instead, it appears that when you activate the 3589i,
Verizon's over-the-air programming configures the USB data cable software
interface to block ringtone installations. I haven't looked at alternatives
to PC Suite, but I suspect that LogiManager, which you mention, and other
3rd-party phone managers will also be blocked from changing the phone's
ringtones. (Also, I note that LogiManger comes from a UK site. I've
developer the impression from brownsing the web that Nokia markets a 3589i
phone in Europe that is GSM, not CDMA, and so is basically a different phone
from the one sold for/by Verizon here in the US. I haven't verified that,
but did see various newsgroup postings where people were describing doing
things with the SIM cards in their 3589i, which means they are talking about
a GSM phone.)
