Kyocera QCP 3035 woes part 2

For some reason, Google won't let me reply to an old thread of mine
describing my problems with the Kyocera 3035. So I have to make this
new post.

Here's what I said before:

I bought a Kyocera QCP 3035 in July 2002. It worked fine for the first
year or so. But ever since then, I've had nothing but trouble. In
September or October the phone just would not stay on. If I picked up
the phone or put it down the wrong way, it would turn off. I took the
phone to a store and they told me to replace the battery. I bought a
new battery and it worked fine . . . for about 2 months.

By January 2004, I was having the same problem again, so I took it
into the store and they gave me a refurbished one. Because it was over
a year old, they charged me $50 for it. After about a month, the
replacement phone was having the same problem. I went into the Verizon
store yesterday and told them that I was tired of these stupid phones
and wanted to upgrade to a different model. They said they couldn't do
that unless I paid full retail. I'm not paying full retail when I am
eligible for a new phone for $100 off in 3 months. So they gave me
another refurbished phone, but promised me that they would give me a
different model (for the new customer price, I believe) if I have
problems with the second replacement. Guess what, the headset jack on
the second replacement doesn't work. We'll see how Verizon's vaunted
customer service handles this problem.
************************************************** ***********
Here's what happened since then. I went back there and they had no
record that they ever promised to give me a new phone (surprise
surprise). So they only gave me another 3035. It had the same problem
with random shut offs. So I returned it 2 days later and got another
one. It had the same problem and returned it 2 days later. But when I
was there, I finally got a helpful suggestion--they were only giving
me a new phone, not a new battery and phone (I didn't know this). He
suggested that I put a rubber band around the phone, holding the
battery snug against the phone.

Since then, I haven't had a single problem with the phone. And it only
took 5 trips to Verizon to fix it ;-).

Now I have the dilemma of whether or not to get a new phone under the
New Every Two plan.

better fix

hi,

so, my story (and as it appears, everyone else's story as well) is hauntingly similar to yours. man, if i could just remember that i'm not the only one in the world, i'd check forums before wasting countless hours waiting in line at the vzw store.

anyway, after realizing that the problem was with the battery, trying the whole eraser strategy, etc., i figured out that actually PLACING something BETWEEN the battery and the phone works even better than rubber bands (as rubber bands are SUPER tacky). i simply added a folded-up post-it between the battery and the phone, and the shut-off problem dissappeared. this braces the phone and the battery, so the battery doesn't move and risk breaking the circuit. wierd, but it works.

hope there's at least one person that benefits from this. not too many NEW 3035 users out there...

I'm looking for my Post-It notes now. If this works, you have my
eternal thanks!

While this will probably eliminate most of them, I'm also not
convinced that all of the 3035 re-boot problems are battery related.
I think a few are due to software glitches. I've seen a brand new
3035e (2.0.40) re-boot, with no battery attached, sitting on a
non-conductive surface, and powered only by its A/C charger.
