Buying an Nokia CDMA phone in Asia, will it work on Verizon's network?

I see Nokia is popping up with new CDMA phones in Asia. I'll be in SE
Asia next week and have been wanting a new phone. Was reading
something about CDMA 2000 1X network in SE Asia - is this different
than Verizon's network? Is the 3589i the only option? I can also post
when I see which actual models are available there.

FWIW: My LG VX6000 picks up a signal in Thailand. I can't make calls
though ... It says something about needing to register my phone with a
local provider. (At least as much as I can make out with my really
bad Thai).

I wouldn't buy a phone that isn't approved by the FCC, which the Asian
models almost definitely aren't. You're actually breaking the law if you use
such a phone - the FCC can be anal about stuff like that regarding radio
broadcasts, and a cell phone is a radio transmitter (you talk over the air-
waves).

Technology is the same and Asian CDMA might even run on the same frequencies;
but the regulatory issues might nail you.
