Kyocera 2235; how do I know which carrier I'm roaming on?

I do a lot of driving between Reno - Carson City - Virginia City and
Tahoe. I'm often going into Extended Network (digital and analog) along
the route, mostly towards Virginia City and around the lake. I have a
Kyocera 2235, but I don't know how to figure out whose network I'm
roaming on. I figure Sprint, but I don't know for sure. How does one
tell on this POS phone?

Computer Bob, I like the 2235, save the display problems. The easiest way:
"*611" will connect you to the associated carrier your on, and it should be
a free call. Alternatively, you can look deeper into your phone and see the
current sid that you are hitting. Then you'll have to find out which
carrier is associated with that sid, and you've got it.

Me, I'd suggest *611, and the answering "service" will tell you in english:
free, quick n easy, the carrier your on.

Re: Kyocera 2235; how do I know which carrier I'm roaming on?

I simply dial #646, always a free call. When roaming it doesn't give you
any minute related information, but it does yield an error message. I've
become familiar with the Sprint lady's voice when she says "The feature code
you've entered is not valid" or US Cellular's "Welcome to US Cellular, the
number you have dialed is not valid. Please check the number and try your
call again."

In other words, in many cases the error messages indicate the carriers name
(or in the case of Sprint, you get familiar with her voice). This also has
the advantage of not bothering anyone.

To have your phone display the SID information on the screen dial "111111"
(six one's) then select the debug menu. If prompted for a password, enter
0's for the full number of digits accepted. If your 2325 is a prepaid
phone, you will need an MSL or debug code which isn't easy to get. If it's
postpaid, then the MSL is just 0's.
