#1 | | Guest | I recently purchased a new VX4400 to replace one I busted. I thought I
received a good deal( http://tinyurl.com/4ab83 ),but when I received the
phone I charged it & noticed a message flashing & while it looked excellent
it had minor signs of wear. I checked the status & seen it was issued a
number. I then checked the life-timer & saw it had 181 hours & 2974 calls. I
then dialed the number on the phone & the guy I bought the phone from
answered(surprise!). his story was that it was brand new from a Verizon
store in Lawrence KS.to replace one they damaged in re-programming. They
attempted to do a nam transfer from the old damaged one to the new one...it
didn't take. What it did do what transfer the phone contents including the
life-timer. I called CS & they weren't sure this was possible & referred me
to a local store tech(all closed for the weekend). I need to know before I
accept this deal if this is possible or have I(or him if VZ gave him a used
phone)been shafted??? The phone looks fairly new except for the
accessories(including battery) are somewhat worn. TIA

tinyurl.com didn't go anyware and was redirected to unicyclist.com and I
wouldn't let it go any further. Why say it was an ebay purchase and send
me/us somewhere else)
When you buy from "anyone" a NEW 4400, unless it says NIB for New In Box, is
usually like new, hardly used. Usually found in the description, but rarely
in the title. Also, a phone received from verizon as a replacement may be
new, but is more than likely used/refurbished. This is a well known fact,
and while some don't like it, "the way it is."
Also: when one does a "copy" from one phone to another, it does NOT copy the
life timer. The life timer is individual to the phone.
If you got a good deal, paid less than $125 for a phone with ac charger,
clip, manual, cd, even if with some minor wear, you most likely got a good
deal. Don't so much worry about the timer, but the quality of the phone and
if it does work. IMHO dr

He probably thought it was brand new since that is the impression
they give you with replacements for re-programming, but they are
often refurbs.

The timer is a property of the phone, not of the phone number.
Why on earth would they transfer it?

Using BitPim it is trivial to make the phone say anything you
want.
My guess is that he was given a refurb and believes it to be new.

sorry about that.... www.tinyurl.com must of had a brain fart. My point is
that he listed it as "brand new" both on the listing & on the phone. It
looks better than the one I busted so I'll probably keep it.....I just don't
like less than honest people.

#14 | | Guest | Welcome to some education on Ebay stuff. There is New In Box (AKA "NIB") and
New (which means whatever the person wants it to mean. For example, you can
buy a used phone from someone else, and then it is New to you, so you sell
it as New!). Hint, if something listed as New is way way cheaper than
something listed as NIB, bend over and get out the Vaseline.
