If it is anything like a Nokia, it is reserved to call your voice mail.

Yes, it is pre-programmed to call voice mail. I haven't been able to figure
out how to erase that programming and replace it with something else.

I know there are lots of other places to put numbers; its just the
principal of the thing, you know? If I wanted *86 there I could program it
    myself. ;-)

It is not not possible to change the *86 on LG phones.

Let me guess...you're a southpaw? The '3' key is my favorite for
speed dialing because I'm right handed and I can hit the key with my
thumb. If you hold the phone in your left hand, the '1' key makes
    sense.

This is simple to change, but be warned that you will have to dial *86
to get your voice mails, even if you use the shortcut keys.

    A. Access the hidden menu that nobody wants you to know about. Press
the 'menu' key, then press '0'. You will be prompted with "??????"
for the Service Code. Enter six all zero's "000000".

    B. Choose item 6 labeled 'SMS'

    C. Choose item 8 labeled 'Edit Voice Mailbox #'

    D. Punch in whatever you want there.

    E. Hit 'End' key to exit.

    Hope this helps.

    Sandy,

What "...hidden menu that nobody wants you to know about"? How does one get
    to it on the LG?

On the 3200 I have, which I'm gathering is probably similar, it came setup
the same way, and I got rid of it. It was quite simple. Go into contacts.
Delete every contact in there that you didn't put there.
