I got thrown out because I was wearing a blue Best Buy shirt I found in a
thrift shop. The store manager said someone might confuse me with an
"associate".

THAT offended ME!....(c;

I'm too big for him to try to take it away from me....

Oh "Horse-****"!!!
I have met WAY too many Sales-Druids at "Best Buy" that can't find their ass
with both hands and a roadmap.
The ones in the video dept has NO CLUE how or what a DLP monitor is.....
The ones in the computer dept know NOTHING about routers, print
servers...except whas on sale that day.

"Best Buy" is a Worst Nighmare, add the ripoff rebates you will never
receive and its a real pisser....**** "Best Buy"!!!

And they're the only place in town to find a 9 hour VHS tape. They
used to carry 10 hour ones, but they seemed to have disappeared.

That may well be true, *IF* you can find someone in the back to
actually help. I've spent 30 minutes or more many, many times waiting
for someome to help me with an item in the Greenville, SC store.
Fortunately, most of the time I go in there, I know exactly what I'm
looking for.

But your front clerks and greeter have always been nice, and there's
rarely long lines at the registers.;-)

Re: Motorolas dont use Verizon towers???

Anybody here old enough to remember the Radio Shack Battery of the Month
Club? RS would give you one free cheesy battery (non-alkaline) every month.
The battery was worth about $0.10.

Yeah, that was back in the days when the stores had tube testers and
you could buy sets of channel crystals to plug into your CB
walkie-talkie.

I'll let you in on another little secret: if the average RadioShack
salesmoron actually HAD any real knowledge on the products they sell,
they probably wouldn't be working at RadioShack.

It's not. If it's a Verizon phone, then it will use Verizon cell sites
whenever it can.

You should have called the salesdroid on his stupidity. If the Motorola
phones on Verizon do NOT use VZW cell sites, then whose DO they use?
Nextel? T-Mobile? Then I'd like to see him explain how a CDMA handset
manages to operate off GSM or iDEN cell sites.

No offense, but you should probably take more offense at your skill set
and resulting paycheck, and work to better both.

Actually, I've had quite a bit of success with their rebate programs.
Best Buy and RadioShack certainly have their places, and I will say that
I do go to those stores to get when I need, if I need it quickly and
can't wait for an online store to ship it. Just be sure to avoid the
staff as much as possible, and when you can't avoid avoid, never trust
the BS coming from their lips.

Actually, they used to have a more recent-vintage battery club where you
could get up to a dollar off alkaline batteries bought in bulk, AND a
free pack of batteries after buying a number of packs over time. The
alkaline batteries actually were/are pretty good there, and with the
discount, very much worth the price. Unfortunately, it was like pulling
teeth getting the sales droids to honor the discount, and many would
feign ignorance. Quite frankly, the point of the club was to get people
in the door... RadioShack would lose money on the batteries, but hope to
score a sale with each visit on some other big-ticket item they'd try to
hard-sell you on (and was invariably overpriced). If you just bought
batteries, it pissed off the sales droids, because it cut into their
commissions and time.

It's been a long time since I've set foot in a RadioShack, so I don't
know if this program is still in effect. Probably not.

Re: Motorolas dont use Verizon towers???

Gotta get in on this as an RS employee.

We get **** on daily, quite frankly I'm used to it. We get **** on
from people who walk in assuming we don't know jack. While it may go
for a good bunch of them, it's not true for all of us. My store
includes an active ham radio operator and an E.E. major. In fact, an
informed customer is the minority. 10 times out of 10 (yes, I mean
it), the customer is the dumb one and he thinks he is wayyyyy ahead of
the employee in terms of knowledge. We get people coming in who swear
up and down that their cousin three states over has an 8mm to VHS
adapter. We get people who think there is a simple cable conversion
system for line-level to RF. Then they swear up and down at the
associate. Then there are those that swear they bought their
T-mobiles at our store. Not to mention how much misguidance Sprint
and Verizon give them (did you know RS handles insurance claims?
Niether did I, and I work there [read: they don't]).

We get **** on from the micro-mis-management from above. 13 "SOPs"
giving us checklist after checklist on mundane daily tasks taking us
away from our minimum-wage + spiff positions. The fact that we have a
checklist dedicated to doing toilet paper counts is insane.

But simply put, I don't give a damn. Between tuition re-imbursement
and a discount cell plan, it's keeping me busy. If I get a few phones
out the door each week, I got some spending cash.

And on top of all that, I got the forums @ www.radioshacksucks.com to
vent on. SPREAD THE WORD!
